I'm not parroting anything some creator has said, I've been feeling this way since the original VSH and Freak Fortress were a thing for years. The mode is great, but the downtime when spectating is pretty dragging, especially if the Saxton player decides for the last few minutes to go friendly, and then you're forced to watch him do the kazotsky kick with that one Hoovy who did ♥♥♥♥ all during the round until the time runs out.
Even though it's not as bad now with the 1-minute timer that was added if neither side tries to capture the point for a short while, it genuinely starts to get a little boring waiting for the round to end. And keep in mind, VSH is 25 rounds, even if you aren't the first out right away in every round, there's still gonna be a ton of downtime while you're sitting there having to wait until the next round finally starts, and there's a good chance you're gonna feel bummed out after all that waiting when the randomiser didn't choose you to be Saxton, you know, the biggest reason people want to play this mode in the first place, and then gradually, the server starts losing players because most them decided not to wait for too long and do something else.
I have been in full servers for this mode when it starts, but by round 25 it never ends full, a fairly big handful always leaves to where it's almost half or below.
And the reason this proposed solution always gets brought up so much is because it does work, like with Graveyard. While it's 2 rounds everyone stays, and the benefit of helping the last player stay alive and they manage to win is a really great feeling and keeps you engaged, like you're a part of that final victory for keeping them alive and allowing them to win the game.
I love this gamemode and I don't want to see it fall and ultimately be abandoned like so many other experimental gamemodes before it (Being lumped in Misc ain't doing it much favours so it already has that going against it).
I'd like to see you give out any bright ideas "John Madden"
-66% slower attack speed (includes left-click actions such as scoping, airblast, cloacking)
-50% health reduction
-33% less max ammo (includes metal, cloak)
-50%slower charge bar(jarate, sandman, uber...)
-cannot pick-up health/ammo packs
-cannot capture/stop capture
-cannot be buffed (still benefits from indirect effects, such as jarate and mad milk)
-count as "dead" (does not get last mann buff, the team losses if everyone is a robot)
you still get to play the game, even after dealing 12 damage as a heavy. It will also reduce the amount of "friendly" simply not wanting to die, taunting in a corner, since there will be no longer any risk of becoming afk for the next 3 minute by playing the game the way it's intented.
Man, that does suck to hear
I'm guessing they simply don't gel well with the game flow properly unlike Arena-focused maps akin to Graveyard. I'm still spit-balling here but not even a concept similar to MvM's revive system could work? Or has there been an idea like that attempted before as well?
