I need to be told exactly how to synchronise the shafts.
None of it makes any sense to me, i opened the box that said it will give you a hint but the hint means nothing.

"Set the first to the fourth position and synchronise the rest from there"

Right, but that doesn't begin to help me.

I tested every setting on the second shaft, none of them match the speed of the first so it's surely objectively impossible to synchronise them, I can't match the speeds when my only options are 10 mismatched speed settings.

And that's only for the first two, I have not even got the first step on how this puzzle is supposed to function.

This is about patience and attitudes. I only managed it after several times and after opening the "help cabinet": As said, put the right shaft in the 4th position (lamp), then go to the third, slow it down (counterclockwise) or speed it up (clockwise) until the markings coincide. You have to have a bit of sensitivity until the axle shaft rotates at the same speed. It's possible - with a little patience. If everything were predictable and easy, this would be a mod that would be boring like others where everything happens similarly without surprises and innovations. :)

Same procedure for the 2nd and first part of the shaft.

Yeah this is where i'm stumped, the speeds never match, none of the settings match the speeds of the shafts with eachother, they are always too slow or too fast from the first one that I know must be set at 4.

I tested if it's not actually based on the lights and the whole switch can be used to set exact speeds, but that's not the case.

The specific issue i'm having is the confirmed correct speed at 4 shaft doesn't have a matching speed I can set it to on the 3rd, they always drift apart and never sync up.

Perhaps watch this specific part/procedure in the video from Skummeh?

Specific timestamp is 2:33:38. You can see I have trouble as well and it's my second time doing it :D

The shafts puzzle stumped me SO MUCH I cheesed it with console commands:

Whether or not the shafts are aligned is determined by the position of the rotating shaft (duh). Simply use the following command to manually stop the rotators to ensure alignment:

ent_fire 586_1542_1126_Shaft_Rotator_# stop

Replace the # sign with numbers 1,2,3, or 4 with 1 being the rightmost shaft.

Lol, I had the exact same process I watched you go through and exact same assumptions made.

The "first" shaft is actually counted from the right side, not the left is something I didn't come to though.

We read from left to right, the left side is the one that has the hint telling you about the first shaft.

I honestly think that hint makes it harder because it urged me to keep the logically assumed "first shaft" at 4 which makes the rest impossible to align.

Thanks for the help.

I guess that was part of the puzzle :D

Glad you got past it now and enjoy the rest of this amazing campaign!

My thought behind it was that the first shaft is the first one after you enter the room from the right. I actually thought about this kind of possible misunderstanding and all of the rotators have numbers on them. Unfortunately these numbers are not visible in eye sight - you have to look under/ in front of the rotators.

This one is bugged for me. There is only a lightbulb in the left sync state column, and several lights are missing in the right 2 dials. When I work from right to left (1-4) the first two shafts can line up, but the sync state in the middle always has a slight difference and will never sync... Such a shame because now I am stuck in the best campaign mod I played so far!

You can upload your save file so I can have a look at it, but it does not sound like something that can be saved.
You can skip the puzzle by typing in the console:
ent_fire 586_1542_1126_check_sync_success trigger

Yeah, probably a cpu clock speed thing or someting. Thnx for the console command, I'm back on track!

Hilarious! It's not THAT hard, but I respect opening the guts and finding the relevant code ;)
It's my least favorite puzzle but it's geniusly implemented. For what it's worth anyone new reading this: you need to crank the speeds then quickly dial back (or vice versa) to sync em one by one. 4th to 1st. Don't feather the speed too much or you'll be there awhile.

I didn't even have to decompile the map! Source2's ent_find command is a wonderful thing. Makes cheesing HL:A puzzles 10 times easier! :P
