Any guidance?
We still don't get how the battle system works.

Can you prepare defense cards in advance by using an action and placing them where it says "Defense"?
If that's possible and then I get attacked, which defense card gets to defend if I have multiple defense cards prepared?

The order of how some spell events etc would work isn't very clear for us, and the guide book inside the game doesn't explain everything, we still don't get when "Deflects" acts.

Also we're not sure where we're supposed to place debuff cards or even what they are, there are slots for "debuff" but we don't know what to place there.

Things like that aren't explained and we would love to learn how to play better!

+ also when do you lose your focus cards? You lose them when you use a defense card to block an attack, right? That's how we've been using those.

We'd want more explanation about the attacking/defending system and where to place things on the board more specifically, please!

Absolutely would love to help rose!

Q: Can you prepare defense cards in advance by using an action and placing them where it says "Defense"?
If that's possible and then I get attacked, which defense card gets to defend if I have multiple defense cards prepared?

A: You HAVE to prep them prior and use an action to do so, and yes you must have a focus available in the focus slots enough to apply a defense, i.e. 1 fully focus on the field (takes an action) allows for a defense item that requires 1 focus to be played. ill make an edit to the handbook for that to be clarified! You have to choose which defense to defend with as long as there is a defense on the field, otherwise if you were to react instead, you may save that for later and just take the hit. And as per the instructions, if you were to lose an item from it being attack, regardless of a pierce/ successful life steal the item gets destroyed the focus, however, does not! EDIT: You MUST defend if there is one on the field as well.

Q: The order of how some spell events etc would work isn't very clear for us, and the guide book inside the game doesn't explain everything, we still don't get when "Deflects" acts.

A: The deflect card is only 1 card, vail of vagueness, it just pushes any attack that would be to you (Attack being any kind of targeted move) to someone else, if just 2 players it misses all together. EDIT: The attacker chooses who. And as per the order of operations its ideal that you always resolve things as they happen. Allow for time to intervene or react. Ask often, "Can you counter" or "Which defense takes the hit"

Q:Also we're not sure where we're supposed to place debuff cards or even what they are, there are slots for "debuff" but we don't know what to place there.

A: anything that has an effect on your next turn is essentially a debuff, if things are resolved immediately they are not those are just curses. Idealy you want to priest purify prior to your turn again, using an instant action, to remove them before your turn. The slots are just to remind you, hey, this needs to be taken care of on your next turn i.e. draw one less or lose actions. Just reminder slots.

Q:+ also when do you lose your focus cards? You lose them when you use a defense card to block an attack, right? That's how we've been using those.

A: Only if they are removed by the curse that requires so, when that curse is used, if there is an item on that focus, it is lost. If it is the bubble, which requires 2 focus, you lose one, you lose the bubble. EDIT: This is to allow for castling essentially, you may have lost the defense but you can apply a new one when possible. If you were imagining the battle, you were fully focused to find time to equip the item, taking a huge blow and losing the item you equipt for defense but youre still focused on your fight, when you get the curse to lose the focus, you must regain focus again. I designed the whole system to be essentially a ROLE PLAY between warlocks in a harry potter-esk duel.

thanks so much for taking your time to help me! it was helpful to see i've been playing the game mostly incorrectly, and now i see why i always was out of focus (i always removed the focus card when defended).

I sent you a discord request for a few other questions I think I have. thx!!!!!!
