When you say that nothing should override this mod...
So,

I feel the need to provide a little bit of context to my confusion because I have been using YARW and YARW Clan (and together with YAWE, no less) without issue ever since the first update after the Solaris DLC dropped but without the Essentials mod. In fact, I could have sworn that when I first installed YARW, there was no mention of the Essentials being...well, essential.

However, having found out about the essential prerequisite that I have been missing all this time, I naturally went to install it but when I tried activating the Essentials mod in-game, the mod selector kindly informed me that Essentials was being overridden by YAML. Since I do actually read the description, I immediately hesitated because it says right there on the tin in shouty-CAPS that nothing should override this mod. Admittedly, YAML claims to only be overriding some DLC 6 mech loadouts, while once active Essential overrides some MG-related assets in YARW, but it is not supposed to be overridden by anything whatsoever at all.

So, in your professional opinion, what should I do? Should I activate the Essentials despite some overrides by YAML because it's just that important? Or am I just wasting your valuable time here because we all know that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'?

(Just to be clear, I am not using any load-order manipulators of any kind. I just download mods from Steam and Nexus, activate them in-game and that's it.)

So every-time the editor is opened up to upload this mod, the load-order resets due to how poorly the steam upload system works. That and i can't bundle all 3 YARW files into one mod like I can on Nexus. Combine this with Steam Workshop not always auto-updating mods and you end up with a really poor system for sharing mods. (or at least mods like this with multiple files). For these reasons I will always recommend Nexus over steam for MW5 modding.

It's likely I forgot to manually adjust the load-order on one of these uploads or I thought I manually set it but it didn't keep. Load order for this mod should be 421 by default. For YARW_Essentials last upload, I know I placed in the correct 421 load order before upload. So there shouldn't be any reason why that wouldn't be the case now? In general, “conflicts” as noted in-game are nothing to worry about and it saying so gives the completely wrong impression. Most the time they are intentional.

Reason why YARW_Essentials is Essential is that the .json files are integral to how weapons work, and certain mods could override this. Everything else acts as a patch like the mech loadouts. Patches make such loadouts correct to what they are supposed to be, or fix them due to the differences in YARW such as AC-RFs using their own ammo type.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I understand that Nexus is the superior platform for modders but as an end user I find the Steam framework much more convenient. This is doubly true for games like MW5 where the mods get updated quite regularly.

Once subscribed, Steam takes care of everything for you, whereas on the Nexus I need to check if there were any updates, and then download and install them. So, in the name of all of us lazy users who choose convenience over functionality, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for accommodating us. :steamhappy:
