I still think the problem he's having is something to do with fear of spawning in his favorite ship and it being unusable due to some warning he received when selecting it in the blueprint list/factory.
There is in game 3 different sort of seeds, only 1 is possible grow in Hydroponic bays one that is called Flawed Pentoxide you producing on your Food processor--- give you yield of 2 units
Second called Imperfect (you can not grow in Hydroponic bays) give you 3 units per harvest
Third called Perfect give you yield of 4 units also can not grow in H.B.
Conclusion------- make them all to be possible use HP considering Xp you spent on it. RE2 is even more grind demanding specially when comes to Pent.
My CV { KATANA--HAV--RE2} complexity 7/ 15 cores atm just over 200K shield capacity with Large Core Reactor and 3 shield specialist ship crew after killing 2 Harvesters in class 3 combat site requires slapping on the front decoy nose 12-15 large hard still blocks plus 3-4 Xeno blocks to under skin. You can imagine how much pentoxide you need and blocks to slap on during 4-5 sites like that and than consider time to grind all that Pent you need. One pent asteroid giving average 280 -360 pent units and than harvesting silly sticks trough Galaxy travelling from Starting system to Drone Land can take easily 4 hours real time of game. Mind you my SV done by well known builder in this game is fitted with 8 laser drills (original BP was with more) to have quality play when warp to first combat site it is desirable to have on hand 12 -13 K of refined pent. mind you that is to do 2 and half sites class 3. To do another 2 and half (which if you lucky ) you can collect enough Processors for 4 Aux cores but often due to destruction reinforced boxes you need to do 1 site more and harvest additionally don't want even to remember. I expect high spending on such set out how shields now working and that is challenging but do something regarding
silly sticks and amount of pent per asteroid
Of course, if there was a way to make higher tiers of hydroponics with greater yield (similar to auto-miners) in general, I wouldn't complain ;)
All that being said, odds of a mobile pentaxid grow-op keeping up with your needs beyond an emergency situation, are somewhat low. You'd either need a massive farm (PITA to set up) or if you're setting up a permanent base anyways, find a planet or moon with pentaxid deposits and drop some auto-miners. Once you get an industrial autominers (better if you're on a server where they can run uninterrupted when off line) you'll have more than you can use.
