Defeated enemy stuck between atmosphere and space
I destroyed the generators on a Zirax corvette and it floated to the "bottom" of space and it's just above the atmosphere. When I try to get to it, I go into the atmosphere. Is this one just a lost cause or is there any way to get to it. I tried on "foot" and now I'm on foot on a desert planet... lol

Please report bugs on GitHub.

Do you think this is a bug? In "normal" gameplay, what will happen to a ship that you take out the generator and then try to push it into the atmosphere?

My guess is you could grab whatever you can using your drone from just not entering atmosphere. Oh but you'd have to core it first. Could also use a multi turret to salvage what you can after that since it has more range than your drone.
Edit: multi turret not multitool

I think the patrol AI is becoming self aware and spiteful ;)
The number of times I've had them drastically leave the patrol area to sneak over and harass my parked ship while running/looting another POI, or their tendency to either climb for or descend to the planet/space transition or run for the poles/seam were you cannot use a multi-tool...

I am still working on trying to get to my ship since I fell myself into the planet no where near any ships. Can you salvage a ship still with the core in it?

I built another ship, gathered some wood, and made my way back up there. Here’s a screenshot. I can’t get closer to the Zirax ship than halfway to the Banshee before going into the atmosphere. Has anyone encountered this issue before? It seems the ship is trapped in some kind of phantom zone between space and the planet. I thought I could push the ship down to the planet to de-core it, but this is where we ended up. Also, my drone just gets cut off when I get to too close. Does anyone know what normally should happen if you try to push a destroyed Zirax ship into a planets atmosphere?

If you check out GitHub you can search for any old reports or report it if you don't see it already reported. This will give others a chance to also do the same.

Thanks for your quick responses. I will look into GitHub.

Do you or anyone know what normal behavior is when you try to push a dead ship from space into the atmosphere? I think this may be a vanilla thing. I just don't know what "normal" behavior is for this even in vanilla.

I believe that planets and the space around planets are completely distinct play fields/scenes and you can not just cross over except by the program changing play fields/scenes. The process is to unload the old scene, then load the new scene by way of software.

An enemy ship should not be able to do this process. If it crosses over the point that triggers the scene change it should not change scenes. I would imagine it become out of reach because the moment you cross over the trigger point, you will unload the old scene and change to the new scene.

This is how most game engines like Unity work.

TLDR... Suck it up and move on... nothing more to loot here

That makes a lot of sense. I'm surprised that there are absolutely NO search results on this issue. I posted on the vanilla forums to see if someone can test this or maybe has experienced it. Just want to know what "normal" looks like. Sure would be nice to finish a ship off on the surface vs. space but it looks like that's not an option.

I was able to get to it. It eventually worked its way out of the atmosphere. Just couldn't pass up all those tasty turret giblets.
