Reforged Eden 2 Beta
Dual Cannon Explosive Damage, which one is right?
I found two descriptions, when in hot bar, it was 525 damage, but when deployed on ship it showed 675, which confused me.

The Dual Cannon, like every other explosive weapon has two forms of damage which are applied at the same time.
Impact Damage: The damage done to the object hit by the projectile from being hit by a 20kg chunk of metal travelling at high speed.
Blast Damage: The damage done to an area around the impact site from that 20kg shell exploding.
The Dual Cannon's 127mm shell deals 1084 Impact Damage to the object it hits, followed by a Blast Damage explosion of 675 damage to all blocks within a 4 meter radius of the impact site.

There are also additional damage multipliers for material bonuses and penalties (e.g. shield damage) and damage bleed-off as explosions get weaker the further they are from the point of detonation.
E.g. The Dual Cannon does 125% Impact Damage to turrets, weapons and concrete (1084 > 1355) and 147% Blast Damage to thrusters (675 > 992)

You can get accurate damage information from the ammunition's tooltip.

The 525 Damage number is an outdated number on the parent block's tooltip. I'll fix that for the next update.

Blast damage is full damage to all blocks/devices in the range? Considering Plasma has better shield damage & explosive range to destroy metal blocks and cores, it makes cannons useless except for a 'better sound effect' somehow.:steambored:

Cannons ammu (127x835mm Cannon Shell / 58.95 Kilograms) is also 1.5 times heavier than plasma (100MJ Plasma Cannon Cell / 40 Kilograms)

No it's not full damage to everything in range. It depends on how many explosion rays hit the block.
"Explosion rays" ~~ Shrapnel damage (sort of) ?? 8-)
Vermillion  [developer] 8 May @ 5:27pm
Explosion rays are how explosive damage is calculated and distributed.
If you use the commands "debuginfo" to show well... debug info. and then use the command "di expr" it will show the explosion ray calculations for all explosive shots.
Using the command "di expv" will show affected voxels behind hit by explosive weapons.

Thanks, Vermillion. 8-)

How informative...

sry for dirty words...

considering the following reason,
1. dual cannon deals half damage against shield than dual plasma per min
2. dual plasma performs better when shooting moving targets than dual cannon

ammos weight is also a disadvantage but not that salient.

so... dual plasma is much better than dual cannon.

Just one more thing, can u make plasma weapons' firing sound effect louder? I cannot hear the shooting sound of them when sitting on cockpit, both dual and triple ones.

The sound effects of weapons are limited to what eleon provides.

If you are using third person view to fly, the "camera" is outside the ship and sound is greatly muted.
