Going out of my mind trying to find gold for a T2 base CPU upgrade
My brother and I are playing coop and our base needs a T2 CPU extension desperately.

That needs 6 large optronic bridges, which require 50 gold ingots and a small optronic bridge each. which in turn require another 50 gold ingots each.

So, one T2 base cpu extension requires 600 gold ingots, plus other materials.

However, in Akua, the only trader that I've found that sells gold ingots is at the Polaris moon base, and he only has about 90 in stock at a time. I don't know how often traders restock, but it's prohibitively long to buy enough gold to build ONE T2 cpu extension. And in any event, I absolutely don't have enough credits to BUY that much gold anyway.

Any ideas what I'm supposed to do? We've needed it for like the past 20 hours of gameplay and so far I've managed to make 2 large optronic bridges. I really don't want to be grinding this hard and this long any time I want to upgrade my base of CV CPU a teeny tiny amount.

To find gold deposits or asteroids you need to leave the starting system.
Make a warp capable CV (you don't need any gold or other rare materials for this) and you can find a place to mine it or more places to buy it.

Can't remember, is there still a Dead Planet in the Alpha System? Easy to obtain the bridges if there is..or an Improved base extender

Like ravien_ff said, you must leave your start system and look around (near by in the galaxy) for a hot star system (K, O) and you will find rare materials like gold but beware: Its a dangerous place to play with a plastic ship!

By "T2" do you mean T2 by vanilla naming or T2 as in "Improved CPU Extender" and not a "basic CPU extender".
Because the Basic CPU Extender (vanilla T2) for bases doesn't require gold.

Sorry, that was dumb of me. I meant the second tier of CPU extenders i.e. the Improved CPU extender - the one that requires the 6 large optronic bridges that I described :)

Yeah if you're ready for a base like that you probably would want to leave the starter system anyway.

Ah, really? Thinking about the main things we've got, we've got a couple of constructors, a small and a large generator, a furnace, a matter transciever, and a deconstructor. The main CPU usage comes from the ~11 basic light turrets (some flak, some cannon, some gatling) we have that still aren't enough to shoot down all the enemy dropships before one or two manage to drop off ~15 Zirax each (and we're playing on easy mode). We don't even have enough CPU left for a basic shield generator and the extra power generator we'd need to run it.

So it feels like our base is barely enough for a basic base to survive easily on Akua, let alone "ready for us to start exploring beyond the stars", but I have a feeling I'm missing something!

That's because you're turret fit is wrong. The only thing you need are Gat Turrets .. all the others are completely useless against Drones and Dropships.. Read the PDA description and look at the Damage bonuses and what they apply against. If you're short on damage (and 6 light Gats should be more than sufficient) upgrade a couple of them to mediums.

We have 6 gatling turrets, two flak turrets (+100% blast damage against drones) and three cannon turrets (I'll make them gatling turrets if cannons are useless), but by your logic the 6 gatling turrets and two flak turrets shiuld be enough.

Re. upgrading them to medium gatling turrets - in maybe 60 hours of playtime in our coop game, we've found one large upgrade kit. I was worried it may be a waste to use it to make one medium gatling turret - I was thinking of waiting until we found a 2nd one so we could make an artillery turret for a CV or something.

Had no trouble with 4 light gats, make sure they are high enough above your base to have good line of site with no obstructions, clear any trees around your base. Flak is short range 1 missile turret in addition to gats could help.

If you're using artillery on a CV then you want it to be a fixed weapon not a turret. Turrets should either be missile and/or laser (shield takedown). It depends on exactly who you're fighting. Spanj's chillin and buildin from this week is very useful in respect of a Legacy combat CV.

I have an unshielded CV with 4 Gats, I travel the galaxy and obviously avoid zirax bigger than a drone, but i don't really have any trouble avoiding stuff, gathering resources is way faster once you leave the start system.
