Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Reforged Eden 2 Beta
Random explosions killed me and my capital ship.
So... I was returning from a failed raid of a POI, and I had no items, no hover bike, so I made a multi tool and was slowly digging through the ground to get back some 2km to my capital ship, parked way out of range....

After I got out of zirax territory, 1km to go... and off in the distance, I saw a huge explosion in the direction of my ship... right after that I suddenly died by a random explosion. I respawned nearby, and died again, almost instantly. I respawned at my tent, and that actually took my to a tent beside my now vaporized ship.

Explosions continued for a while.. I managed to get 1/3 of my loot and run on one of the ships I had previously attached to the capital ship.

What I'm curious is... what in the world happened? Was the cutter invisible? I scanned, and looked at the map, but I didn't find it at all... I had previously seen a kiurva class cutter in zirax territory, but I didn't think it would go that far out to shoot my CV...

That's possible especially if you're playing on a server. Patrol vessels have quite a few game bugs they are plagued by.
is it vanilla related? (I noticed in vanilla NA servers, I didn't see ANY patrol vesssels, so I assume they disabled them there... )

Game bugs are issues with the game itself, not specific or caused by any one scenario, and typically need to be reproduced and reported using a vanilla save game to the game developers so they can fix it. Scenarios are unable to do anything about game bugs.

Do ground bases put out a SOS like orbital ones do (not reinforcements, but causing ships in the area to investigate)? I know I've sat there and watched a patrol vessel do its circuit before I attacked a spaceport in a different hemisphere only for the PPV to beeline over to say hello.

Sound like you answered your own question. I will need to watch out for them! 8-)

Curious to know if its intended or one of those 'wacky EGS things that just happens sometimes', and if intended, what kind of range does it have?

The patrol vessels guarding the drone base should not go too far from the drone base, but the ones patrolling the whole planet might come investigate.
I can set the range they will do so at, but I cannot change anything else about that system.
Oh that is fine. I was probably just within range... since it was invisible that was the worst part.

PPVs don't show up on radar but are always visible on the map, but should render when you are in range, as long as it is in your field of view (I know if I start taking fire on foot, I tend to scan for NPCs, or a POI I wandered too close to; the instinct to look up hasn't been fully developed yet)

If it was truly invisible and not appearing on the map, it does sound like an out of sync bug, but those are usually fixed by refreshing the playfield (leaving and coming back) which I would have thought dying would have accomplished.
