Painted black!

Can this item be painted black? After I tried to paint it, all it did was make the visor clear. Is this a glitch or was this by design? I have a few pictures on my profile to give an example of what it looks like.

yes, it was made that way, cause logicaly, transperent textures cannot be dark, it's about the light and light doesn't have black color
