Q: Why is German West Asia set up the way it is in this submod?

A: The TL;DR is, in my interpretation of the events post-1925 British Revolution Germany values the supply lines with Singapur enough to warrant occupying the vast majority of British colonies in the Indian Ocean. From my research, most of Africa was viewed as a waste of time (and Somaliland) but Aden? No way. The idea of the Ottomans occupying much of Eurasia in the face of German hegemony is slightly strange to me. GWA can hand all of this stuff back in any event near the start of the game.

Q: Why does Sudan exist at game start as an Egyptian puppet?

A: I did a lot of research into Sudanese history and the White Flag League and concluded that the vanilla set up of Egypt somehow just absorbing all of Sudan is somewhat nonsensical. Sudanese national consciousness (or what little there was at the time) among intellectuals was mostly in favour of some degree of union with Egypt, but total annexation would have been out of the question. This isn't the 1870s and much of the country would have engaged in a massive anti-Egyptian revolt. Instead, in my submod, a compromise is reached, in an almost dual monarchy sort of manner.

Q: Why does Sierra Leone exist at game start?

A: The Krios at this time, probably some of the most ultra empire loyalists around, would not have been very happy with a permanent French occupation.

Q: Why is Katanga separate from the Congo?

A: In this time period Katanga was basically governed as its own separate vicegovernor, formally under Leopoldville, but pretty much acting on his own. I have somewhat run with this. Also it would be a waste to abandon all of the old KR/KX content they have! Congo can annex them easily in their focus tree anyway.

Q: Why is Congo no longer called the Free State?

A: Because while I enjoy the meme, the German and Belgian states held noxious views of Leopold's rule which was associated by basically everyone living with the worst excesses of despotism in Africa. Belgium basically seized the colony from him due to the red rubber scandal after it was exposed. The British and Germans even contemplated splitting Congo between themselves afterwards - twice.

Q: Why does the Kenya-Uganda Free State no longer exist as one country?

A: The idea of a country filled with near-mutinous white settlers who contemplated overthrowing British governance unifying with an entirely black country dominated by a powerful native kingdom does not really stand up in my view. Also, it just lets me give them more content individually.

Q: Why is South Rhodesia called simply Rhodesia now?

A: It was never called South Rhodesia at any point in history. It was always either Southern Rhodesia, or simply Rhodesia. Other names in the region include Charterland, Zambesia etc.

Q: Why is Swaziland occupied by Portugal?

A: This is historically dubious, definitely, but I just thought it would be an interesting situation for a de facto Entente country to have taken the opportunity to secure the Lourenco Marques port after the British Revolution and be stuck in limbo over it until the time comes to deal with it diplomatically.

Q: Why does Siam not own northern Malaya?

A: German Ostasien could not call itself a protecting power if it handed over legally British protectorates to Siam. It could negotiate to give parts of Cambodia and Laos to Siam as that French possession was formally transferred to the Reich after the Weltkrieg. As far as Germany is concerned, the 1909 Treaty with Siam still holds.
