Great Lakes Shipping
So I'm messaging you as you are perhaps what could best be considered V3's most prominent North America Modder.

How difficult would it be to put ports on the Great Lakes and turn the St. Lawrence into a shipping lane? I would expect this would be a Map mod more than event programming but, the ability to build/unlock the expanded locks around Niagra and the Sault Locks at appropriate techs/dates sticks out.

You've already done so much and have an impressive road map as is, but is this something that could appear on your radar for this mod or on another modder's interests that you know of?

Requires editing the map data which is out of scope for this mod. I think all it would take is adding another sea node though. I'm not sure that you could add tech-locked access though.

love the idea personally considering I'm from the Chicago area, but the St. Lawrence Seaway wasn't built until 1959, so it wouldn't really be period appropriate :/

The first canal was completed in 1829. I'd also argue on a game abstraction level that having ports in the great lakes but not allowing naval invasion mechanically matches reality the best.

Maybe a MAPI buff to the Ohio River zone could approximate this?
