Well your not really going to lower the poly count as you have the outside of the usual mask + the inside of it, & a little balloonicorn & control pannel thing. I can see the only way of lowering the poly count is to make the section below the balloonicorn a flat panel, with a texture giving the illusion of depth into the head. In terms of giving examples of hats with higher polycounts, I reckon the "glob" from last years halloween checks in pretty high.

Lod0 = 1395 tris
Lod1 = 988 tris
Lod2 = 700 tris

Valve's poly budget for misc items seems to be 1400, 1000, 700

:D

Alright, valve likes to keep hat polycounts low that way hats don't decide to lag out the game, I almost made a hat, I know everything you need to do to get this into the game. It needs to have a relatively low polycount. I think around 5000 or below, maybe I'm wrong. But valve has made exeptions to this several times if the item is good enough. I think this is good enough to be added disreguarding it's polycount, valve may work with the maker to make possible edits if it does get added.So it seems like a "50/50 chance" that valve will add this because It has a high polycount, but it also is a VERY good idea for tf2 and is recieving a fair amount of support

As said on the Steam Workshop Item Creating Guidelines for TF2:

"Q: What are the polycount limits on my item?
A: Keep the polycount similar to what's already in the game. Try to keep hats under 1,000 polygons, and weapons under 6,500."

whats a polygon
I'm curious why your item isn't certifide compatable when you have met the LOD requirements? I want this item to do well. But Not having that silly golden star reduces the chances of this item getting picked to almost nothing... Sorry to be a downer... I think Valve at this point just strictly enforces that golden star as then they don't want people to to start submitting awesome yet incompatible items regurally... I do wish you the best of luck man and I hope you get picked.

It did have the gold star... Don't know why it's gone, I'll reupload in a bit

Reuploaded has the gold star again! :D thank you very much for pointing that out!
You have all these criteria to work within:
You need to make the polygon budget of 700, 1000, 1400 triangles for your model
You need to use certain size textures (512 x512) of certain file formats
and you have to use the games importer to package up all your files.

The importer gives you a goldstar on you item if you didn't break any rules and got everything to go through fine.

Oh and Glad to hear you got you gold star back. ^_^ Good luck... Hopefully the Tiny Texan will be out by the end of today or early tomorrow.

I dunno, what's a paladin?
You know, this would have more of an impact if I was the avatar from Ultima 9.
