I’m relieved to finally have a chance to speak here.
First of all, I want to clear something up: Yes, I created the rain virus. Before you block me or shut me down, I need to tell the full story, because only part of it is known.
Crek (aka TheEyeArtist) has claimed that I made the virus purely out of spite, just because he created another BeegSMG4 model. (And that I'd do the same to anyone else who passionately makes a BeegSMG4 model).
But ofc he's leaving out some context:
He made his Beeg SMG4 model in direct response to my involvement with AI. He felt betrayed by my support for AI, and creating his model was an attempt to cancel mine. This situation isn’t as one-sided as it’s been made to appear.
Publicly, he claimed the model was made to "update Beeg SMG4 with the redesigns," which made my actions look purely petty.
Now regarding AI, I know that Crek and many people in his circle feel strongly that AI is harmful to artists. As a former artist myself, I actually had those concerns myself. However, I came to believe that AI as an inevitable part of the future, and I jumped too far ahead, preparing for what I believed to be the worst-case scenario for artists. When I say "AI is the future," I don’t mean that as a good thing. I’m bracing for impact. I can understand why people protest AI with claims of "art theft," but I swear, I hadn’t heard this argument until Crek mentioned it to me. At the time, my Twitter and YouTube feeds were flooded with AI hype, which shaped my perspective a lot.
Now, does this justify my actions? Of course not.
I’m fully aware making a "genuis" virus was wrong, and no one is asking for or expecting an apology to magically make everything better. But I feel it’s important to explain my side and acknowledge that the situation is more complicated than it seems. I know many people won’t believe me no matter what I say, and I understand why it’s easier to assume I’ll continue to double down.
As for Crek, I recognize his defense has been to call me names and distort facts to make himself look like the "good guy." The truth is, there’s no good guy in this situation. I’m at the center of it, but everyone involved has some responsibility. I’m just as upset as everyone else, and I want to be clear that I’m not hiding from my role in this.
So Crek, if you're reading this, I know you'll probably take this post down, and I won’t be surprised if you continue to shut me out. But by doing that, you continue to hide the full story. You're only letting your side be heard and presist in keeping my truth hidden. I know there's nothing I can do to stop you, but it doesn't change the fact that there are two sides to this conflict.
One thing I regret the most is not responding to you in those Twitter DMs when you first reached out to me about AI. You told me you believed AI was "art theft," but instead of engaging with you in an open conversation, I ignored you. That was a mistake.
I should’ve told you then and there that I wasn't buying it. But I was trying to be "nice" by avoiding conflict (So genius, I know). In hindsight, it would have been better if we had a real discussion. Maybe we both could have learned from each other.
But no, I even blocked you without explaining it was temporary, and things just got worse from there. For that, I owe you an apology, even though I don’t expect your forgiveness. I truly wish I could go back in time and handle it differently.
Now, a question I don’t expect you to answer: Would you still have shut me out and led this protest if I’d been upfront and shared my thoughts then and there in those DMs? Could we have agreed to disagree, even if we didn’t see eye to eye on AI? Were we ever really friends, or was I wrong to think of you that way?
In the end, I made the virus because I felt betrayed by someone I thought was a friend. But if I’m right about why you made your BeegSMG4 model, then the situation is far more complicated than simply labeling me as the bad guy.
Lastly, I want to say I respect Axolfan's BeegSMG4 model because it was made out of genuine passion, not out of spite.
