Hardcore fun that's hard to navigate. 3/5 stars.

This version of No Mercy: Apocalypse is a ground-up remake of the 1.0 version with all-new level design and two hospital chapters instead of one. Like its predecessor, it's part of the "Apocalypse" series — remixes of official campaigns that are more difficult with modified level layouts and aesthetics. Unlike its predecessor, it generally looks good thanks to detailed, atmospheric environments.

Those expansive, maze-like environments are part of the big issue, though — navigation is excruciating. There are hardly any graffiti hints on where to go, the path forward is often hidden in darkness, and sometimes bots will off themselves on ladders just to spite you for trying to progress.

Thankfully, the mod is otherwise a fun challenge. Ammo and weapons are limited (partially because this mod used to be L4D1-exclusive) but it's still very fair. This is an alternate universe version of No Mercy that doesn't hold your hand, and I kinda dig it.
