The Army Of Fetid Corpses Continued

A Mod Review in the 1.5 Ressurected State (it's not great, unpleasant surprises described inside)
First off, let me just be clear, here. Ferris, the mod necromancer, is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ champion. Their hosting & maitenance of this ambitious, complicated mod is nothing short of doing the Lord's work. If you are able, offer them a hug, do nice things for Ferris. Mod necromancers who remain true to mods like this deserve our love & respect. We should want nothing but good things for them, all the time, forever. ~<3

Which means... that the things that don't I don't like, & I don't think work very well, are nothing to do with our beloved mod necromancer. It's to do with the concepts & implementation of the mod itself. Moving on...

There are unannounced incursions in this mod. Like, zombies & bosses just pop onto the map, zoom in on your colony & attack without warning. There's nothing you can do about that except wall up. If you don't like that, there's no settings to turn it off.

Further, there is a fallout-like event, which is cool, it works... however, the problem is that the necronoid infection that it causes both cannot be cleared up with the Ideology Biosculptor pod, & the necronoid cure you can research (THAT COSTS 7000 RESEARCH POINTS) can/will cause a deadly overdose in children. That's right, the mod has a disease that can't be cured by except by hurdling a massive, specific research wall, & the cure will kill your children. And, no, there are no settings to fix any of this.

Boss monsters can also come with maximum armor values; the Wendigo, for example (which is not on the front page) has 200% sharp armor, & 99% pain resist. It also moves at a rate of 9.6 cells a second, faster than any pawn can move with archotech legs. You cannot, again, prepare against something like this which can arrive without warning... & it's not even the faster necronoid I've seen. The Howling Spider is more than 12 cells a second fast. It is, quite honestly, the fastest thing I've ever seen in this game in the years I've been playing it.

Those three things, the stealth events that don't add to the story unfolding except possibly end it without warning, & force a single play style of mindlessly turtling up. The poorly implemented (to me) necronoid infection mechanics, & the fact that monsters that are not uncommon (I've killed 5 unannounced Wendigos & 3 unannounced Howling Spiders without losses because I tanked up REAL FAST after the first Howling Spider) can be either have maximum armor or ludicrous speed really turns me off. So I have been forced to, not unsubscribe, but at least turn this very ambitious, interesting mod off for now. Which is a shame, because I also got a "Flesh Pit" event, & that was INCREDIBLY fun.

Swarms of zombies with assault rifles are genuinely thrilling to repulse, & the regular swarms & attacks are very-very-very fun, rewarding good base layout & preparation. Plus, allowing me regular access to, & thus the logistical issue of, human leather & human meat? Fantastic, yes, force me to deal with this vanilla resource that I so often completely ignore! Shame the other things I've seen the mod throw at me aren't like that, yet.

So... keep this mod on your radar, & be ware of its problems. All love to Ferris.

Hello!

I love this mod too, but. :) All of these are my subjective opinions below.
I'm in the process to put together a minecraft modpack with three infection mods like this.
But I had to remove the Fetid Corpses temporarily to be able to test the forming modpack.

Well, my domesticated hamburger-rats exploding was a bit of surprise, but my elephent horde stomped them down quickly, and I've got antigen organs.
So that was an event!

The first huge, grinning boss with red shield I've encountered at fleshpit event is lolitering now on my fields as a zombie - even if can be controlled only by setting up a special allowed are for just him.

But getting a necroid infecting weather in tribal phase was a hit. I've searched creative mode commands to turn it off after looking at mod config. I had to reload.
This event doesn't seem to come often (2 reloads so far) but a bit early.
I'm not a speedrunner, mood is the most important thing I care in my colonies.

My highlander wanderer-mage was happily tending and traning his attack-hauling rats he is barfing up periodically (genetics), a bit gardening, planting some flowers - then all slowly becoming infected, and I don't wanna live in a cave with 6x10^23 rats around, for security reasons.

Altough human flesh haven't brothered me as much as kibble, and the biomass is from humans, so it's immersive.
Perhaps using just necroid flesh with a description "Green Soyant, it's people!"?
And the rats won't tell anyone.

So yes, please most wise emperor Ferris, bloater of the flesh masses, please include a lot more configuration options for us, unititated in the secret ways of befriending, eradicating or containing them. Playable race?

Wish it were for CE.

Also, remember. Cherry picker exists. This will 100% fix most of these problems, though... it does bloat your save a bit.

Cherry Picker shouldn't be a necessity when mod configuration is a thing that exists, and even the simplest mods use. Its nice for when mods have one or two creatures that are a pain, or a redundant item, but

Its good to have, but it shouldnt be mandatory.

That depends Boss.
Can cherry picker filter out events?
I agree with your criticisms.
That being said, I have been known to be a masochist on occasion.
So this mod is PERFECT for me when I have an overpowered mod list.
The greatest champions must face the most terrible of challenges.

I can feel what you mean. :D
I just miss the fine-tuning, when more terrors are installed you see? ;)

For example Neon Cleaver, a cute minecraft modpack with beauty and calmness contains three separate world destroying biological infections from popular horror stories if the player accidentally trips them active. :3
