Actual lore for this place... hope the creator approves. (Old)
gm_fork - formerly known as the town of Fergus, now known as Fork. A suburb in the northern region of walled-off Alabama, the city fell victim to fallout from a neutron bomb that hit the isolated state in 2053, during a nationwide revolution against America's first true imperial government. This bomb was dropped by the New American Empire in order to systematically kill off all survivors who were part of the remnants of the New Confederacy - this resulted in the death of most human life in the state through radiation poisoning, making way for an irradiated variant of nature.

The town was once an industrial hub known for its status as a major player in Alabama's steelmaking industry, reaching its peak in the mid-20th century. It slowly faded from history, becoming forgotten as decades passed. During the Second Civil War, Fergus suddenly regained its importance as it housed a Neo-Confederate base with an underground missile silo until its seizure by Imperial authorities in 2046. With the arrival of the state's Imperial Border Wall in the late 2040s, the city would be doomed to rot behind a towering curtain of concrete and steel.

Fergus has been abandoned since the bomb struck the state, staying intact and laying dormant until the 2060s, when raiders and rogue robots came from the southwest to settle in the city - a bombed out billboard would give the city its post-war name of Fork. Settlers in Fork would have to deal with attacks by radioactive wildlife attempting to reclaim Alabama for itself.

2083 would have Fork see the arrival of the Roamer; along with the Roamer's arrival would come promises to make the state and city livable in just 5 years through salvaged Imperial technology, hoping to have the city thriving once more by 2090.

Update: It's been 7 months since I originally wrote this, and it hasn't aged well. I've seen the flaws in this lore, such as various parts of it not matching up with the map's details. Then came the additions and explanations in the comments that only made the lore become too confusing to follow as more of it was written down there...

This lore originally came from a combination of Fallout and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ized Wolfenstein with America put in the place of the Nazis, and the idea eventually came to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in general.

I've pretty much dropped the idea now that some time has passed, so I'll just unsub from this thread. I won't return to see if it's either left alone or if it becomes total hell.

I dont think it makes it like 2053 , an actual lore would be something else than that , because there are fences that block off the city to prevent you getting out , and also that nuclear silo , and bunker , the nuclear silo had a missile , wich was launched , and the silo is in ruins , so it had passed some time , but i dont think it was 2053 as it does not take that much time to make plants to grow up there.

Just added more lore.

A neutron bomb would destroy a city , atleast part of it , so the neutron part is wrong , but still , kind of a good lore just that the time passes trough , and makes it a little bit boring , because if the buildings where intact they would be touched by human life , atleast repaired or used as shelter , but , there are still trees , alive ones in the city , in the center of the city , a neutron bomb would erradicate life in the city , wich would have no sense .

also , if you are not agreed with the neutron part and the missleading parts , well , then change it to a gas bomb , poison bomb , you know , chlorine shells , stuff like that , mustard gas .
Anxiety 3 Feb, 2018 @ 9:38pm
That would make some sense since poison does erradicate life , but still leaves the city intact , and trees without a single piece of a leaf.

Referring to the neutron bomb parts, Fergus wasn't directly struck by a neutron bomb. It was, however, affected by deadly fallout from nearby, which would explain the irradiation of nature.

Fork's residents would still be around after 20 years, willing to kill in the name of the irradiated town. The Roamer would be seen as an enemy of the raiders and the rogue automatons - the robots would see them as a 'trespasser', while the raiders would try to kill him/her for their own gain. The raiders expect to get some good loot off of the Roamer.

Not sure why a town in Alabama would have the Red Star and Russian writing all over the place but ok...

Luckily, there's an explanation for that. Be prepared for a wall of lore.

Upon the state of Alabama succumbing to Imperial American authority in 2046 as an entity of the New Confederacy, an isolated group of hardline communists named the Red Line saw this as a chance to attempt to reunite the state's population under their beliefs. The Red Line based themselves in the town of Fergus, using an abandoned factory as the main headquarters. They wouldn't dare to put themselves out in the open until the right time came.

Believing that the right time had finally come, they made themselves known in 2050. With the help of other underground groups, they spread their presence in the town of Fergus through propaganda. Imperial authorities would come to wage an ideological war against the Red Line by forcefully removing all traces of communist propaganda in the town.

When the walled-off state of Alabama was struck by a neutron bomb 3 years later, Fergus had already had half of its share of new Red Line propaganda produced for the month. The city, being affected by nuclear fallout, was evacuated completely - everything, including the propaganda, was left behind. The Red Line was unfortunate enough to stick around in the now-irradiated city, gradually declining through the years due to its members being attacked by rabid mutant animals and raiders.
