How do I get sugar?

Also I tried to collect apples but it didn't work. Do i need something to actually collect the apples?

you need bucket from garage and apples to crate what stand in back of bucket. apples appears not very noticible

Dumb question but how do I add the ingredients to the jar? I got the water in, but I can't tell if I got the ingredients in.
