How hero refresh works
The Problem
Previously, the player was unable to embed a hero into an army if it contained 20 units or more. Further, if a hero gained a mount while inside an army with more than 20 units, then the hero would stop functioning and would not appear in battles.

The Solution
When selecting a hero, the player will find a new button on the bottom left of the screen, near the movement range meter. Pressing this button with select the hero to embed, and it can be pressed again to deselect. With a hero selected, the player can left click on an owned army and it will automatically embed the hero by 'refreshing' the army.

The 'refresh' works by:
1. Copying all of the units into memory
2. Removing all of the units from the army
3. Embedding the hero, now that the army has space
4. Adding the units back to the army, and purchasing their upgrades again.

This process is automatically performed when a hero in the army gains/switches mounts. This can be toggled in the MCT menu.

Unit rank, HP, and upgrades (i.e. scrap) are retained. Treasury and resource costs for unit upgrades will be refunded, including for most modded upgrades. Support requires that the modded upgrade uses the 'other' pooled resource factor.

Some additional notes:

  • As a side effect, units in a refreshed army lose whatever progress they had towards the next level. As far as I know, the game does not provide any scripting functionality to remedy this. They do still retain their rank.
  • Armies cannot contain more than 19 heroes (plus lord). The scripting functions to embed the hero simply do not work in that case.
  • When a hero is embedded/refreshed in an army, the bonus effect (ex. mobility) will not apply until reload or next turn
