Why I do the things I do in this mod
Explaining why things are the way they are in this mod.

Many of you are going to have strong opinions on certain things, mostly involving trains, and I will explain why I do the things I do in this mod.

TL;DR: I'm not replacing the Caravans with Trains.

One: No, I wont be replacing the Caravans with Trains.

- Caravans are a distinct Fallout Feature dating back to Fallout 1. To replace those, in my opinion, loses an original part of Fallout. This is not a Bethesda thing, a large portion of Fallout 1 was you traveling with the Caravans to gain caps and levels.

Even into New Vegas Caravans still play an integral role in the economy of the Wasteland from Crimson Caravan to Happy Trails Caravan Company and even Cassidy Caravans.

Two: The Wasteland would use roads long before rail.

- It's a lot easier to follow roads and road signs and even old road maps than more sparse rail maps. OWB has already replaced the rail gfx with roads and this makes more sense given they are far more interconnected in the U.S.

The biggest difference between U.S. Rail and everywhere else Rail is U.S. Rail runs through some rather remote areas far and away from towns. Which if you're a Caravan the LAST thing you wanna do is be far away from any known settlement following a remote rail line.

Three: Wouldn't see trains too much in universe.

- Only the largest nations like NCR, Texas, Manitoba, and possibly the BoS and Enclave would be anywhere close to using these. New Canaan maybe, you can argue Heavens Gate and Eagle Rock. NCR is known to make use of them in lore but given they're using Chain Gangs to build the railroad I don't think it's too common.

Four: Railway Guns: Just, no.

-They are big, expensive, and tactically insufficient. Only the Enclave or Brotherhood could come close to producing these, NCR maybe. Maybe. However OWB uses roads, and having a massive mobile gun that can only operate on the roads is silly.

Five: Support Companies.

- One thing I changed was the motorized support companies (save the recon) to use the Caravan Tech instead of motorized tech.

I know this one weak which is why it's at the end. "oh, just make a separate equipment" the four preceding arguments are why I'm not.

Six: Steam Trains.

- Those things are brilliant but complicated, pieces of machinery. I almost say too complicated for the average wastelander. While a wastelander might be able to find the schematics on how to recreate a microcfusion cell, finding a step by step blue print for a steam locomotive will overwhelm them.

Thus we get to the Diesel engines that would no doubt litter the wasteland. For sake of brevity, I made them Diesel-Fusion hybrids. These would be far simpler to scavenge and get working again rather than restore a complicated steam train.

Also, I was running out of room and steam trains were cut.

I made a mod woth trains. Trains attract certain individuals who I don't want to deal with.

Plus my experience on ERX means I need a quick reference when people come in wondering why they can't have trains.
