How do you mod family members to show up on the family tree to start with?

Adopt in Family Funciton.

Is there a way that you may force generals to be adopted in your Family? So that may become Scions for your faction? I am referring to the family tree not the Dynasty Tree.

I have actually tried to mess around with the adoption feature but haven't found any way to adopt characters besides the ingame mechanic
