I'd have to make this a non-default option because any cat manhunter or raiding animal and that's it for your colony, most likely. A cat explosion, given the enormous energy a cat deftly controls while it is alive, would be antigrain size I think.
Of course, a secondary option would allow for Explode Like A Phoenix.
Acid might be another effect - especially if it's a huge area of effect with like... barrels of acid.
It might depend too, on who dealt the fatal blow: humanlikes, fire - mechs? acid, all the way.
I like this idea.
