Icon Makyr

How to use this thing (and how to make it automatic)
No offense to the creator, but he didn't really supply an explanation for how to get your custom spawn menu icons to show up in your spawn menu.

Firstly, create an "entities" folder in your files if one does not already exist. Exact location should be: :\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\materials\entities

Your custom spawn menu icons created with 'icon makyr' are saved to:
:\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\icon_makyr

Next, just drag your custom icons into the entities folder. They will not appear instantly in your game, you will need to restart the level for them to appear.

To make it automatic, create a symbolic link between entities and icon_makyr's folders. Theres another guide for a similar gmod workshop addon that you can read here to figure out exactly how to do that:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/1918233489/6993586036988970781/

1. Right click the "entities" folder ITSELF (not inside the folder) in the first directory, /garrysmod/materials/entities
2. Select "Pick link source" from the right click dropdown menu (this is the graphical link extension)
3. Then, right click WITHIN your /data/icon_makyr folder (the second directory)
4. Select "Drop As" and then "Symbolic Link" from the dropdown menus
5. Rename the newly created shortcut folder to "thumb" so that the icons save to that folder, and then get redirected to the proper directory.

I mean... To be fair, this tool is aimed at people who make add-ons. If you can make your add-on (NPCs, sweps, scents, svehs) I expect you to know how to make icons. Also, you don't have convert pngs into materials, you can use them as they are. Thank you for the tutorial though.

I have made my own addons and know how to make icons and all that, but I also use a lot of addons with my friends, like over 200 of them. A lot of workshop creators were too lazy to make icons, and even with my super-organized spawn menu it was still a pain to try to to find stuff by the names alone. I used your icon maker and now everything my spawn menu has a proper icon and has made finding stuff much easier and faster.

As for the converting to materials thing, I just assumed I had to do that when I said that in your comments the addon's page, I was wrong, so I didn't put that in the tutorial
Moving it into the entities folder won't work on its own. You would have to put each icon into its own separate folder, which would be named after the weapon/NPC/entity. It would also need to be in a folder labeled "spawnicons".

Uh...no. What I described works for weapons, and everything else. No subfolders or any other folders needed. Just putting everything in garrysmod/materials/entities works. For example, I have the admin shotgun addon, so in the entities folder I have an icon made with the "Icon Makyr" called "weapon_adminshotty.png", and it shows up in game.

Here's screenshots to prove it:
