Dev Diary 5 : Winds of Winter (Snow)
[h] Winter is Here and so is Snow [/h]

After a few days of intense trial and error (and a month of trying to understand the code for the shader files) the issue of Snow in winter showing up as a green/brown/yellow color has been resolved. For the next update (very soon), snow will now be pristine snow white during winters. As of now, it takes about 30 seconds when loading the game for the snow to show up, but that may be resolved in a future update.

Mechanics
In short, Seasons now manually overwrites the function that determines the color based on the terrain, which

One thing that has not been decided, is whether or not to have snow on the trees. As vanilla says that winter snow covers trees, but the trees in the lands Beyond the Wall, do not have snow on them. That may change in a future update, or based on user feedback, or just my personal preference after some more beta testing of it.

In the near future, there are plans for much more regional variation, based on what realistic climate types would occur in Westeros, while still being lore accurate (so that all of the Riverlands isn't in a drought at once, and the mountains in the Westerlands aren't the exact same climate as Fair Isle, allowing for more variety and flavor. One thing that needs to be fixed, is the mechanic for how the seasonal effects are applied, since as of now, the season your capital is in, applies to all of your domain. It will need to be fixed so that it applies to what county it is in, without your capital having numerous excess effects. (There is an issue where it only works for top lieges, and then all others do not experience seasons. It is under development, but with snow fixed it will take a higher level of priority, especially since that will pave the way for the long delayed Storms to be implemented properly).
