maybe it happens in combination with "[NL] Facial Animation" in your mod list

If so... just uncheck the Facial Animation mod settings for all hive xenotypes

YUP. This was it. The problem was the facial animation mod

You can blacklist the hiver xenotypes in Facial Anim's mod settings.
