The worst idea I've had -- Meadowed watcher (kinda spoilery)
TLDR: I'm mad and trying to reach an impossible goal. Don't do this.

What's this, you may ask? Why's it my 'worst idea ever'?
Well, it begins with one quote.

Now, I'm turning to the wonderful community to help me die on the hill of completing this or to cure me of whatever madness I have.

Explaining the mission.
As I am sure you are aware of by now, all dlc/base game slugcats have some amount of support from rain meadow.
All but one.

Watcher, the most recent bit of DLC we've gotten.


And I can promise you that this is a bad ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea you shouldn't EVER try because you'll be throwing solutions at the wall and begging the community for help like I am.
Or you'll beat me to my goal of being the first person on earth to beat meadow watcher. That'll make me really sad.


What I/we know and suspect

The sum of all knowledge I have here.
How watcher's a bit quirky at night/ quirks of watcher play that aren't that bad
  • Only host can properly interact with the echo
- Self explanatory. Otherwise it acts like a weird version of a normal echo.
- Pretty much you gotta fight tooth and nail to keep the precious cargo/host alive.

  • Host is one-of-a-kind
    - Only the host can become invisible
    - presumably same is true with others
Roadblocks 4 watcher (REALLY bad)
The third echo
Upon loading the first 'ripple' cutscenes, everything may seem fine.
You press continue only to be greeted by what I like to call

Watcher's black screen of death and loading (WBSODaL)
WBSODaL is a phenomenon where the game remains in a permanent loading state, and refuses to finish, leading to a game restart.
It's cause is unknown, but it happens in the following 2 scenarios:
  • Host/client tries to load post portal 3 cutscene
  • Client tries to load into watcher regions/state after portal
Presumably something something cutscenes moving slugs around/loading maps unexpectedly
the second scenario has only been tested in coral caves, however. It may be a coral caves issue.

The strange case of the Coral Caves
The coral caves situation mentioned above is.. Weird.

The host plays the game completely fine (atleast in 1 region), but clients REFUSE to fully connect.
I dunno what it looks like in person, but considering how a friend described it:
Everyone except the host is hit with a WBSODaL upon entering proximity.
The WBSODaL will even keep trying to load if the host SHELTERS.

But who knows what this means.

Aaand that's all the info I can reasonably fit within the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ opening of this discussion without people telling me I should've made a guide or something.
Now, if you have any idea how we can make this work, I'd be glad to hear you out.
Any knowledge to me is extremely useful. I'm willing to run tests and ♥♥♥♥ if it means we can get advancements in watcher campaign technology..

UPDATE: PORTALS WORK FINE!
seems the problem is just the echo ones!
