NPCs do not consume food.
I've run several tests, and they don't eat either when I'm near NPCs or when I'm far away. They used to eat food. Could I be the only one with this error? By the way, I love the mod, but this seems important to me.

It's been disabled. The way npcs act while they're hungry is getting reimplemented.
