Deeper Timer Explanations
Had a couple of PMs about this so thought I'd write a quick FAQ.

Charged Shots

The timer groups for the three main types of charged shots all work more or less identically, they just turn on slightly different barrel, holding and firing fields.

Each timer triggers the next one in the sequence, i.e. Timer 1 Starts Timer 2, Timer 2 Starts Timer 3 and so forth.

Timer 1: Ring 1 Lights On, Holding Fields On, Barrel Fields On, Connectors Output. This timer also disables all other timer groups related to firing and opening/closing and disabled itself as well to prevent a double trigger. It enables the Abort timer group.

Timer 2: Ring 2 Lights On only.

Timer 3: Ring 3 Lights On only.

Timer 4: Ring 4 Lights On, Connectors Stop Outputting (gives time for the shot to settle).

Timer 5: Fires the shot - All Charging Lights Off, Firing Lights On, Holding Fields Off, Firing Fields On, Disables Abort TImers (too late to abort at this point as shot has been fired).

Timer 6: Close down sequence - FIring Lights Off, Barrel Fields Off, Firing Fields Off, All Firing Timers and Open/Close Timers Re-enabled.

Timer 7: Full Auto Trigger - if this block is on, it simply calls Timer 1 again repeating the sequence; if not, nothing will happen ending the sequence.

Anyone picking it apart may notice a final timer exists. This just toggles Timer 7 on and off (along with an indicator light in the command center). This wouldn't be necessary if not for the light as you could just turn Timer 7 itselff on and off.

Rapid Shots

Just one single timer here!

Timer 1: Turns on Firing Lights, Increases Flash Rate of Firing Lights, Turns on Bottom Holding Field Only, Turns on Barrel Fields, Turns on Firing Fields, Connectors Output, All Firing Timers Disabled, Abort Timers Enabled.

And that's all it does. It just leaves everything turned on and firing until the abort sequence stops it. For the spread mode the firing fields extend all the way down into the chamber which means the rocks are fired as soon as they exit the connector. For the inline mode the fields don't start until above the chamber, giving them time to form into a tight barrel first.

Abort Sequence

The abort sequence doesn't actually know the state of most of the components (it doesn't know which lights are on for example) so it's basically just a method for turning everything off and resetting everything. The only other function is has is to activate a reverse gravity field and the collectors in order to recover the rocks.

Timer 1: All Fring Fields Off, Connectors Stop Output, Disables Self to prevent double usage.

Timer 2: Holding Fields Off, Abort Fields On, Collectors On (The barrels remain on to prevent damage to the sides).

Timer 3: All Lights Off, Abort Fields Off, Barrel Fields Off, Collectors Off, Re-enable all Firing Timer Groups.

Field Types

The main thing to understand about how the projectiles are formed is that gravity fields form a 'box' of various shapes - a flat plane for wide shot, a square for cannon and a tall rectangle for sniper.

Holding Fields: The fields form the 'top' and 'bottom' of the box. The bottom simply stops rocks hitting the bottom of the chamber and is used to keep wide shot flat. This is the same field for every shot type and is the only generator type build into the main station not on a ring.

Barrel Fields: These do two things, firstly they form the 'sides' of the holding boxes and then when firing they act exactly like the barrel of a gun, forcing the rock cluster to maintain a certain width. They are of course also very necessary for protecting the barrel from being hit by its own rocks!

Firing Fields: Nice and simple; just a bunch of gravity generators designed to propel rocks directly outwards. Most extend right down into the firing chamber except for Rapid Inline where the fields don't start until a lot higher, allowing time for the rocks to be aligned first.

All my fields are balanced to not effect any of the internals of the station so any crew are completely safe from the effects. The engineering rooms are the only exception for this - I'm tempted next update to use a sensor to detect if anyone is in there and refure to fire if they are and also lock-out the doors while a sequence is in progress.
