Vanilla Gear Expanded
**FIXED** Missing cap textures
EDIT: Fixed/narrowed down. Turns out it may have been a mod conflict with *AT LEAST* the full version of AuthenticZ - if a sub-version with less addition works I didn't/want to fully test - and you may get different results on male/female chars

Hi,

first I want to say: Hugely awesome great mod. However I am seemingly plagued by some issues and I saw this occasionally mentioned in the comments as well. This thread might allow us to maybe hunt down the root cause of the issue and determine if there is a solid fix and whether it's a mod conflict, a graphs setting issue or maybe a B42 version issue that can simply happen.

Long story short: When I started using the mod with some others, some of which add clothes, I noticed that for all wearable caps, institution tags like "police", "FBI", "ATF" or any sort of logos (the ATF ones have logo variants as well) were not on the caps (if you zoom in the logos or tags seem kinda misplaced on the mesh itself, only visible with fractions like inverted or under the cap). (Riot) Helmets always were fine.

I noted that later they'd appear when fiddling with some mods. Then in a run upon loading back in the texture would be gone again and the cap would just be a plain color.

I've tried extensively disabling mods to try to narrow it down to a potential mod conflict but had no real luck. Sometimes I'd almost have no other mods on but still notice the texture bug. Then I went into the settings and fiddled around with enabling/disabling texture compression. In the same setup it then suddenly worked, only to then fail again upon loading back into the game after.

I've also tried removing worn items to see if it might be a conflict with some other face or headgear but no to avail. If I go into the character setup screen where I can select caps, it already shows up as faulty or missing texture. The cap itself is fine, it's just plain color, with some traces of the texture that should be center front being so misplaced like under the cap, you don't really see it anymore only hints of it.

------------------------------------------------------------

Now I ask for collective (or mod maker) help:
Does anyone have the same issue? If yes or no, does anyone what could be more inclined to cause this? Can it be narrowed down to a mod conflict or a general game version issue with texture?

I'll continue various things and if I find out the cause myself I'll let yall know.

Thanks.

Ok funny lil update, while still experimenting: Turns out in char preview, on male models the issue is there for caps but if I switch to female, it's not and the caps work.

I usually play male and it used to sometimes work. Still trying mods again to see if it can be narrowed down resolutely to a mod conflict or not.

E: I'm at a loss. I tinkered around with mods, seemingly made it work, I spawned in on a new save and even auto-sorted the mods, it all worked on my male char. Then to test it I closed the game and restarted it, loaded back in and bam: Police tag on cap gone again.

Could it be something wonky with the game itself? I have texture compression on and max texture size both times on 1024 (it worked with this before).

Just to confirm, you're on build 42? It could potentially be a mod conflict or file error, I say this because you mention the issue is happening to the police cap which isn't touched at all by the mod. Have you tried disabling all mods and verifying your game cache?

First off: Thanks for getting back to me about this issue.

I think I finally narrowed it down after a lot of more testing - yes, B42. Turns out it may have been a mod conflict after all because on graphical settings 512 max texture and texture compression it now reliably works even after closing the game and re-loading into the same save.

Turns out that AuthenticZ broke it for me; keeping it off makes the textures and institution tags work now reliably even after game restarts. I'm sorry for throwing it out there because I did test it with the mod off but still had the issue appear at times in existing and new runs so I couldn't narrow it down to that mod specifically (maybe some wonkyness of the game in general) but now it seemingly appears to be the cause.

To get some benefit out of it I'd consider testing it yourself and / or adding a possible incompatibility issue mention with some mod textures if you use AuthenticZ (in the full version at least) enabled to your mod description.

I'm just happy I was able to narrow it down after so many new runs started and testing (I tend to be nitpicky and was somehow annoyed about the missing cap textures a lot, so it wouldn't leave me much rest haha).

TL;DR folks: Expect some missing tags/textures on some items if you use the full version of AuthenticZ; it doesn't just seemingly affect this but other mods with unique cap additions as well.
