Garry's Mod

Garry's Mod

GWater2 - Dynamic Water
Module fails to load on Linux Mint [Proton]
I am on linux mint using proton (experimental), x86-64 chromium branch, I installed all the files correctly and have tried restarting multiple times (I am also using an amd gpu, but he said in the videos you can use an amd gpu if you use proton, which I am)
---
GWATER2 FAILED TO LOAD MODULE!
This likely means you did not install the FleX binaries correctly into GarrysMod/
Please check your installation and restart the game.
If you are 100% sure you have installed it correctly, restart the game a few times. This is a problem with Garry's code and I cannot fix it.

Feel free to ask for help if the issue persists. PLEASE provide the upcoming 3 lines when asking for help:

Error: lua/autorun/gwater2_init.lua:70: Couldn't load module library! (Module not found.)
BRANCH: x86-64

The issue for me is fixed when using the standard branch instead of the x86-64 one (which is a shame but hey at least it works, this is magic)

I'm going to assume this a very common occurrence on Linux under Proton, I'm using KDE neon. I've had to restart my game 30+ times in a row to get it to work once, then 30 more to use it again

EDIT: Switching off the x86-64 branch to the standard branch made it launch on the first attempt.

it did not work once with x86-64 for me, the standard branch has consistently worked without fail

The x86-64 version of the game seems incredibly unstable under Proton anyway. I've had to deal with Chromium refusing to load for 30+ minutes, effectively locking me out of the game unless I used the map command or restarted.
