Mod/Sandbox Suggestions
Hey everyone!

This thread is dedicated to gathering your suggestions and recommendations for mods and sandbox settings. If you have ideas that enhance gameplay or tweak the experience, feel free to share them here!

A few key guidelines to keep in mind:

  • The goal is to maintain a vanilla and realistic experience—we’re aiming for immersion, not fantasy or game-breaking changes.

  • Mods or features should align with the 1993 setting. Nothing beyond that timeframe, please!

  • Focus on mods or settings that enhance realism, survival mechanics, or expand upon the core gameplay without stepping out of Project Zomboid's vibe.

  • We want to keep the experience authentic while offering some tweaks and improvements to tailor the challenge.

Drop your ideas below—let's discuss what works best!

Is it intended for the bandit encounters to happen everyday?

I'm currently in Echo Creek, and even in the outskirts of town I end up constantly fighting bandits with the sandbox preset. At least one bandit spawns per day, but in my last hour played I was attacked three times in the same day. While it's fun to have this threat, their constant tracking is very annoying—especially at night. Once you have a gun, they become more of a nuisance than an actual threat.

It would be better if encounters were less frequent, with maybe increased difficulty as a trade off.

Thank you for your observation. I'm currently testing for a new update to mods and sandbox settings, especially with Bandit Extra Options, unfortunately, they're currently at 1% and it doesn't appear to go lower than that. At 0.5 they appear to stop spawning completely.

I'll let you know if I manage to make it more sparse.
Hey just wanted to stop by and drop in some of my mods I've worked on in case they interest you

Makes it so pants that visually have a belt will have belt slots and can't be equipped with belts:

Adds in sock/shoe durability loss from stomping zombies based on the stats of your socks/shoes and also can inflict pain to your foot if you are stomping zombies with broken shoes or no socks on. Also includes a sub mod that adds discomfort to boots:

Adds the ability to forge iron rods and pipes, and also drill iron bars/rods into iron pipes:

Sets fluid containers to realistic values, and includes a patch mod to increase the storage size of campfires and stoves to 50 in order to allow putting the increased capacity pots in them:

Hey, I tested the Bandits Extra Options settings, and deactivated the Raider AI and increased spawn their spawn rate to a 100%.

So far this changes made the game much more fun. The bandits keeps spawning about the same rate as before (perhaps even more) and I usually encounter them after wandering a bit. They can still track your relative location, but they won't raid you until they actually see you. This makes the game more fair without losing the tension of knowing a bandit is wandering around your location.
