Overview:

The Dark Web mod introduces a new layer of gameplay for players by allowing them to utilize in-game currency. With this mod, scavenging takes on a new significance. Collecting money from cash registers or valuable items from zombies becomes worthwhile as you can sell these items for something more valuable. It is important not to keep cash on hand; to make purchases online, you must deposit your blood-stained bills into an ATM to credit your bank account, which will then be accessible on the Dark Web.

ATM:

How It Works ?

A bank account is linked to your game save and character. You can deposit or withdraw money at ATMs. Once transactions are complete, your bank account is automatically updated, and your new balance becomes available for purchases on the Dark Web. Your balance is saved and will be accessible throughout your survival journey. ATMs are generally found around the game’s banks. There are two types of ATMs in the game: freestanding and wall-integrated.

Computer:

What can we do on the computer?

The first submenu is the dark web. This interface allows you to buy weapons, armor, and ammunition, as well as sell items to earn money.

You can also trade with fictional companies. Stock prices are updated every hour, allowing you to speculate, go on expeditions, and sell your stocks later if they’re still valuable. If you haven’t sold, you haven’t lost!

To track your stock market activities and simplify your investment overview, the portfolio will help you. All your stocks are stored in your digital wallet where you can monitor your gains and losses.

To hack an ID card. ID cards from zombies allow you to recover valuable information about bank accounts. Zombies don’t need money, so why not get rid of it! 😄

You can also accept contracts in the form of quests or missions that will require you to complete certain tasks, varying in difficulty.

The last available submenu is Request. This feature allows players to request services, enabling them to spend their hard-earned money to hope for a bit more survival!

Why isn't any interface working ?

To use the interfaces, you must first log in. Use the CONNECT button before accessing any features.

How long does a computer stay on ?

The computer stays in sleep mode for 24 hours before automatically shutting down. It also remains connected to the internet for 1 hour if not in use. If you stay on the computer, there's no need to reconnect every 5 minutes with this setup.

Connect:

How it works ?

The login mechanism is based on your character's name. He uses utilize the electrical skill to enhance the player’s connection speed. The higher their electrical skill, the faster they will be able to input this information.

Dark Web:

How it works ?

Once you have deposited funds into your bank account, you can access the Dark Web to make your first purchases. If you don't have enough money yet, you can also sell items. The Dark Web offers a randomly generated list of 272 items. In the backend, the game rolls a dice between 5 and 100 to create this item list. Some items may appear multiple times at different prices, giving you the opportunity to choose the best deals for buying.

How do I sell items ?

To sell items, they must be listed. You can view this list using the help button. Then, place the item in your main inventory and click Sell. A suspicious package will be given to you instead of your item. Drop it in a mailbox to receive your money.

How are purchase and selling prices defined ?

The prices of items are also generated randomly, allowing you to find items listed at different prices within the same category. To determine the price of an item, I assign a base price that varies depending on its category. For weapons, the price is set based on the damage they can inflict without critical hits, the weight of the item, and the number of hands required to use it. Consequently, two-handed weapons are generally more expensive than one-handed ones. Jewelry and lingerie utilize a value system without a formula, which serves to balance the gameplay by ensuring a steady income for players and rewarding farming efforts. Gold jewelry and the WristWatch are considered reliable items for generating substantial profit.

Once the base price is established, a purchase value is generated that falls between the initial price and three times that value. The selling price is calculated to be between the initial price and one-and-a-half times that price, divided by two. This initial pricing configuration ensures a balance between farming and acquiring rare items within the game.

How much is an item available for on the dark web ?

The item list is generated randomly, as previously mentioned. The list of items is refreshed daily, meaning that each day spent in-game gives you the opportunity to buy or sell new items.

This mechanism allows you sufficient time to gather items that can later be sold or to accrue enough currency to obtain the item you desire. If there is nothing that interests you, this one-hour window is short enough to wait for a new list to become available.

Trading:

How it works ?

'Trading is based on fictional companies you can invest in. To enhance all bank accounts, I've included various companies with different values. Each hour, the values are updated, and they can increase or decrease. Currently, these values are randomly assigned, but I am considering making them more reflective of the real world.

You can buy as many shares as you want as long as your bank account allows it. Conversely, you can sell at any time. The trading interface currently has no commissions, so now is a great time to take advantage of it! 🙂

For a better simulation, I've recreated the trading interface using candlestick charts. By default, this interface is based on H1, but you can also view the value in D1 with button. Writing candlestick graphs in LUA is quite complex, so I'm not sure if I'll offer more than H1 and D1 for now.

How can I view my purchased assets?

Your assets are grouped in your digital wallet, allowing you to track the real-time value of your portfolio, its evolution, and the stock prices of each company you have invested in.

Hacking:

How it works ?

The hacking interface is available as long as you have an ID card. Currently, there are no restrictions for hacking an ID card. Once you have a zombie's name, you try to retrieve the balance of their bank account by hacking the central bank. Your electrical skill level gives you the chance to find more money, but that's not all; to unlock access to the account, you must find the correct code. After six attempts without finding the correct code, the account will be locked and cannot be recovered. Similar to the game Mastermind, the code helps you find the right numbers. You need to find four unique digits; This means there will never be any duplicate or triplicate numbers in the code.

Contracts:

How it works ?

Contracts are like quests in this mod. Once you connect to the contract interface, available companies on the stock market will offer contracts to meet their needs. Successfully completing a mission will increase the company's stock value.

Contracts are a way to get you out of your hideout and earn a lot of money. They reset every week. In the first week of the game, contracts are intentionally unavailable to allow players to settle into the world.

How do I complete my mission ?

Generally, contracts will require you to go to a specific location. The place is mentioned in the conversation with your employer. Once there, either kill your target or retrieve the contract item. The item isn't located in containers in the usual way; you validate your contract by right-clicking in the context menu to avoid interference with other game interactions.

Once you click on the context menu, your character will launch an animation to automatically retrieve the items related to the contract. Don't lose them, or you may have to cancel your mission. Keep the quest item in your main inventory, go to a mailbox, and send your package. When you return to the computer on the contract interface, your account will be credited with the quest amount.

How to cancel a contract ?

You can only hold one contract at a time. If you find this contract too difficult, go to the contract interface to simply cancel it with no penalties.

How do I return the mission item ?

Place the item in your main inventory and send it by mail. Be careful, only the item retrieved at the contract location will count as the successful completion of your mission.

Requests:

How it works ?

The requests interface works like contracts but in reverse; this time, you make a request on IRC to obtain something.

How do I retrieve my order ?

Your order is sent directly by mail, contained in a large box. There is no delay between ordering and receiving it.

Why can't I place an order ? I have cash on me.

you need to deposit the money into your bank account via an ATM. Requests are automatically linked to your bank account; without money, you can't do anything online.

Love the vision keep it strong!!
I for the life of me can't figure some of the contract missions out. How and where am I supposed to catch a live zombie? I've gotten several missions where they wanted me to get a specific item with no location mentioned and I'll have the item in my loot stash put it in my inventory and try to send it off with no luck.

@Prince Nacaruu: Contracts operate in stages and use context menus. For instance, to capture a living zombie, right-click on it and start the capture animation. Once the animation is complete, you can proceed to the next step and send it with the mailbox. After that, returning to the contract interface will get you paid by the NPC.

All quests follow this right-click principle, which triggers an animation to update the mission's status and advance to the next stage.

If you have any doubts or further questions, feel free to update this discussion. :)

Does the zombie blood collecting mission work the same way, with the right click interface? Is there a zomboid specific to this mission or should any one make do? Tried right clicking on live zombies, dead zombies, knocked down zombies, with and without weapons equipped but got nothing, couldn't figure it out.
Raixxar  [developer] 16 Mar @ 7:58am
@illukas: If your contract is still active, the killed zombie must be freshly killed. Once dead, you can take its blood with a right click

Must have been a mod conflict in my case. I changed PZLinux to be last in the load order and then was able to complete the blood collecting mission.
Raixxar  [developer] 22 Mar @ 3:51am
@Illukas: Do you have any idea which mod might be conflicting with PZLinux?
illukas 22 Mar @ 9:57am
Sorry, I've no good idea as I'm not familiar with their code. I reckon it could be any one that modifies the right click context menu, perhaps Common Sense. Here is the mod list and the order if you wish to dig into it further:

I'm having trouble with the contracts that want you to kill zombies. I accept a contract, and am instructed to kill 40 or 50 zombies anywhere in the world, but after I do, nothing happens, and I have no option to interact with the contract menu further, or the mailbox. Am I missing something?

@phoofaphant: Hello, thank you for your feedback. If you go back to the contract interface on the computer, you should see the active contract. If you don't see this message, it means the contract is not properly activated. Do you have more information so I can find out why this issue is occurring, please? Thank you for your help.
Raixxar  [developer] 12 May @ 12:59am
@illukas: Thanks for this list! I'll check if any of these mods might be causing issues with the PZLinux menu.
well, for example, if the contract is to take a live zombie, I take the live zombie, mail it off, and then when I go back to the contract screen, I can finish the contract. I get paid, and everything works fine. it's specifically the ones that require me to kill a certain amount of zombies. The contract says i must kill 40 zombies, but then when I do, I go back to the contract screen, and nothing happens, as if I hadn't completed the contract yet. even though, all I was supposed to do was kill 40 zombies, and I did, and the contract even keeps track of the zombies you've killed.

@phoofaphant : Thank you for your quick response. I'll try to reproduce and fix this issue.
