What's a brother gotta' do to get some trade value?!
Lore: "In this civilization, wars were never fought with armies. Instead, disputes, whether between tribes, city-states, or entire nations- were settled through ritual combat between political leaders. Strength, honor, and personal valor form the backbone of society. Large-scale battles are generally seen as barbaric, dishonorable and even cowardly. The leaders of this civilization rule not because they are the wisest, have the most connections or are the richest, but because they were the strongest."
Gameplay Mechanics:
HONOR DUEL EVENT:
When the empire that has this origin is invaded by an enemy empire, if the enemy empire is NOT a gestalt consciousness or a genocidal empire, that enemy empire will get a notification regarding a duel between leaders. The outcome of the duel can be affected by ideology; (Regular Pacifist empires get a lower chance of winning, while Militarists get a higher chance of winning it, etc), traits (having the "Weak" trait lowers your leader's chance of winning the duel, having the "Strong" trait makes your chance higher, and having the "Very Strong" further increases your chance). Enemy empires have an option to outright refuse this duel invitation, but in doing so, they get a temporary debuff during the war while the Trial by Combat empire gets a small buff.
Trial by Combat empires must be Pacifist and cannot use the Inward Perfection civic (as it works kinda similarly). Leaders that fight have a very tiny chance to die during duel, especially affected by age or other negative traits.
Basically, I had this as an idea when I saw recently people bring up; "Imagine if we stopped fighting wars and had our leaders fight one another", and I just thought; Damn, that would make a really incredible Stellaris origin!

Ooh, this does sound like a good idea.
I just think it sounds more like something a civic would do (potentially locked civic).
Would it be okay if I tried making this as a civic? Or is it being an origin an important part of it?
Most definitely!
Also, just wanted to say thanks for not just your suggestion, but also the way you did so. Very detailed compared to most suggestions.
Of course! And thank you for considering my suggestion! Very appreciated! I know how infuriating it can be when people give you a vague suggestion for a mod, so I wanted to make it somewhat detailed at the very least :) I may drop another suggestion sometime that I think is way more suitable for an origin.
Lore: "This Machine Gestalt views wild fauna, and sapient organic life as one in the same; Sacred creatures to be protected and preserved in their most primitive, natural state. Living exclusively in orbital habitats, they watch over sanctuary worlds where pre-technological civilizations remain free from the corruption of advanced technology. Watching above in their space constructs, they are eternal guardians of galactic wilderness and primitives, with the ultimate goal of eliminating the only natural thing that the machine consciousness finds deeply unsatisfactory- Organic pain, one way or another."
Gameplay Effects:
THE FREE BEASTS:
Upon starting your gameplay as a Keepers of the Free Beasts empire, you will start in a habitat orbiting (and with advanced tech related to it at the start, similar to the "Void Dwellers" origin) around a Gaia world full of primitives with an Observation Post built around it too, with the special origin pre-FTL origin "Free Beasts". You start with a very small sample of the same species in that Gaia world within your orbital habitat with the Species Rights "Cryostasis" (In this state, they drain no resources, organics cannot be integrated and can only be kept preserved within your empire) Primitive civilizations under you will be forever stuck in the "Stone Age" phase and cannot advance further. If your empire manages to find another primitive world, if it's Stone Age, building an observation post will change the primitives' origin to "Free Beasts" and give you direct bonuses as normal. If you find a primitive world that's past Stone Age, you will be able to infiltrate said world to send them back to the Stone Age, and once that's done, their origin will be changed to "Free Beasts"
For each primitive world that you have as "Free Beasts" with an Observation Post above, you'll be granted a 3% bonus to all research (except society/biology, which gets a 7% bonus instead) (numbers could be adjusted for balancing).
If you find habitable worlds that have no intelligent lifeforms, you are capable of following an event chain of sorts or a situation log over time in order to introduce some of your "Cryostasis" organic pops to the empty habitable world. A similar event should pop up for uplifting (if you have the tech) without settling the world directly if the world has a native pre-sapient species. Colonization itself of habitable planets should be generally discouraged. You cannot pick this Origin along by either of the three following civics; Driven Assimilators, Determined Exterminators or Rogue Servitors.
THE OMEGA PROTOCOL:
This would be a way for you to become a sort of pseudo-crisis, you start with a dormant, self-evolving nanobot chamber in your orbital habitat that seems closed shut and with no way of safely opening it. Upon obtaining a specific number of "Free Beast" worlds under you, an event will trigger in which the nanobot chamber suddenly opens, and you'll get an event with three options:
1. The first option will allow you to pursue a special project that will change your empire's directive even further which allows you to shower a Free Beast world with said nanobots. The project effectively turn the organics in said primitive worlds immortal and terraform the biosphere even further to erase predation (turning it into a Gaia world for worlds that weren't already one), granting the species in the primitive world the "Immortal" trait and granting the world the "Earthly Paradise" modifier, what this modifier entails and mean may be adjusted for balance purposes. Upon initial successful implementation on one of your worlds, regular organics may hate you after this, as your directive will change into being more expansionist in nature and you will get several bonuses to your fleet.
2. The second option allows you to research the nanobots in order to gain nanomachine/nanite related related tech options (potentially) or at least great bonuses to research related to it. This will be the middle ground option, but it can end up in failure and potentially causing mayhem in your orbital habitat.
3. The third option basically allows you to seal the chamber back down, obtaining no bonuses but also getting no possible failures/negatives from doing this.
