⚠️ Bug Branch Disclaimer – Stability Warning

While the AETHER collection runs without issue for many players (myself included — I'm actively playing a save right now with the full mod list), some users experience crashes specifically related to Bug Branch and its associated modules.

This seems to vary based on system setup, OS, or mod manager configuration.

🧠 Recommendation:
If you're experiencing crashes on launch or during gameplay, remove all Bug Branch-related mods and try again.
Alternatively, you may prefer a separate collection that avoids Bug Branch entirely (see the recommended collection linked on the front page).

🧹 Mods to Remove if Disabling Bug Branch:

Make sure to also disable any Bug Branch UI extensions or civic variants if you are customizing your load order manually.




How to use:
  1. Highlight the below mod list
  2. Right click the highlight
  3. Select "Copy"
  4. Open your Irony Mod Manager
  5. Click the "+" button to create a new playset
  6. Name the mod collection "AETHER"
  7. Click "Okay"
  8. Right click the empty mod list pane on the right
  9. Select "Import mod load order from clipboard"
  10. Confirm by selecting "Yes" to overwrite
  11. Click "Apply"
  12. (Optional – Recommended) Select "Merge" and choose "Basic"
  13. (Optional – Recommended) When merge is complete, click "Apply"
  14. IMPORTANT: Basic Merge will make a new combined mod that no longer updates. To get new mod updates you will have to delete the basic merge and re-verfiy stellaris!
  15. Click "Launch" to start Stellaris with your new AETHER modset

@matts, I have edited the original post so you can follow the instructions for a simple copy and paste, which Irony supports. No need to manually maneuver things

Hi there, does this not work on the current latest version of Stellaris, v4.0.5?

I followed your instructions with Irony Mod Manager, and it crashes once I reach 100% on startup. Looking at the mod list in Irony, a handful of mods have their supported version as v4.0.2 - 4.0.4. Would that be the cause for this?

Much appreciated! Looking forward to trying it out soon.

Edit- It seems even after disabling those mods with a lower supported version, there is still a crash at 100% loading. Perhaps it is some other mod conflict?

Edit 2- I identified the problem mod, "Ethics & Civics: Bug Branch." Disabling this mod in the pack has it start up with no issues. :^)

Noooo, the bug branch. I wonder what changed with 4.0.5 because I was having no issues before then with big branch.

Hopefully bug branch will update soon, they seem to update very fast.

Collection updated. Successfully tested up to galaxy generation with no crashes on load. Bug Branch functioning as expected. Game not unpaused for extended testing at this stage.

I played through a few years yesterday but seems like early days for 4.0 still so will probably be back in a week or so.

FYI- Currently with 4.0.6, "Ethics & Civics: Bug Branch" causes a crash on load, disabling this has it load with no issues. :)

All good lol. This modpack adds so much more vs the vanilla game, I've been really enjoying it. Never touched a mod before this so this is nuts. So don't think I'm posting this stuff to complain, just giving you some data points on potentially problematic mods in the pack. 👍

Which set do you recommend?
I have never used mods before.
Weird bug, 3 of the Ethics from Bug Branch can't be picked when creating a new empire (Anthropocentric + Fan. Anthropocentric ; Elitist + Fan. Elitist and Pluralists + Fan. Pluralist).

Not only I can't choose all 3 (or 6 if you count the Fanatic versions), but also there's no tooltip/popup telling me the name and modifiers of those either, it's like they don't exist except for their icon.

Another thing, when I got to the point of choosing a specialization for my industrial district, clicking the + icon to select it crashed my game every time. (Now that I think about it, I shouldn't even have had a industrial district I believe? IDK)

That last crash has only happened with Planetary Diversity and Bug Branch at the same time + the compatch that I saw in BB's page (I assumed it was working so I tried it).

Bug Branch... bugs... of ethics happen with and without Planetary Div. so it's not that.

Might play with PD and without BB for a bit to try that side :P

Edit: Also, I forgot to add, I had both the Gestalt Wilderness version of Districts and the normal ones with both mods, but now that I'm only using PD I only have the Gestalt version (aka Photosynthesis Fields, Hollow Mountains and Orchard Forests). So the specialization crash was PROBABLY due to using both mods, even with the supposed compatch, but haven't verified as I haven't reached specs yet. Will update if I find news
