Should I keep the helicopter's skydive mechanic?
When you jump out of the helicopter, it puts you into an invisible vehicle that allows you to survive any fall. It plays Halo music when you're falling, and displays contrails on Chief's feet.

This was a prototype idea I incorporated into the helicopter because I didn't want to die from terminal velocity when I jumped out.

I'd like to hear what you think.
Do you think the skydive mechanic should be kept or removed?
Thank you for your feedback.

i think its a good feature but would it be possible to make it just exit the vehicle normally when its on the ground?

Hi @cathyy7! Thanks for replying to the discussion.

It might be possible to make the vehicle exit automatically when on the ground.
Unfortunately, there's no way to get the ground coordinate via script.
The only thing I can think of doing is to somehow check if the player is no longer moving while in the skydive vehicle.
can you fix the camera movement being weird when you leave from the skydiving also the animation can look good if when your on the ground chief is not air and on the floor and have him get up or dont its still fun to do

I'm definitely going to rework things with the skydive mechanic. Are you using controller or the mouse? I believe the camera should be fine with Keyboard & Mouse, but I know you can look up and down really fast with controller at the time being. That's a bug.

As for the animation, I needed something that had an enter/exit animation so Masterchief could skydive. The banshee animations were the most suitable. I will experiment with making some kind of automatic exit script when you stop moving, or completely remove the concept all together.

Thanks for your feedback, @THICKNICK313
I thought it was a bug at first and reverted to checkpoint/restarted mission/didnt use the Heli first playthrough, but I always landed close-enough so never bothered trying to move just spent a minute staring at chief laying on the ground for seemingly no reason

That's understandable. Looking at people's reactions on video has taught me a lot. Sorry if it was confusing first time. I do appreciate your feedback!
I think it should be kept, since one never knows when they need to exit it due to various circumstances and so forth. Also, prevents accidental damage to both shields and health, though I dunno if the "seconds before death" script occurs when falling down through the air after some time passes as you're falling downward, since i'm well aware that this script exists in a few Halo titles. ^^;
I didnt even know this was a thing. I thought this was a bug or oversight regarding the helicopter. I always land the thing before hopping out

Thanks so much for your feedback, Bulldozer! I'm probably gonna remove it in the next update.

Really? Aww man.... It's actually very useful for avoid potential fall damage in emergency scenarios imho so i'd actually want to keep it in tbh. :OhNo:

I know...I read your above reply. It's not a script that detects if you're going to die. That's really not achievable dynamically. I'd have to place triggers all over the map by hand. There's no way to tell if a player is on the ground coordinates.

Instead, it just places you in a separate vehicle immediately upon exiting the heli. The vehicle is designed to feel like you are skydiving.

Anyway, there's no great way to go about making detection for you landing/hitting the ground. That makes it so you always HAVE to manually exit the vehicle. People thought it was a bug. I didn't explain it clearly either. So that's why I'm removing it. I agree with you about avoiding fall damage. That was the original intent. You can go MILES into the sky, jump out, and not take any damage.

It's also not designed for CO-OP. It can be, but the problems listed make it undesirable to keep.

Also, in reply to your above message: scripts are present in all Halo titles.

I hope this makes sense. Realistically, one must fully land a helicopter in order to exit it and not die.
Ah, I see. Still a shame though, since I feel that, at the very least, it'd prevent fall-based damage when in "skydive" mode.

But I hear you.
