Banished

Old Growth Forests
Some Questions I Had.
This is really cool! I just have some questions to help me understand the mod better (and a small suggestion that you're free to ignore :3 ). I was going to post this as a comment, but I thought it might be smarter to put it here in the Discussions area.

It was kind of hard for me to tell which trees are my old-growth at first. I think this is just because I only had 4 trees on the map I loaded that were truly massive, so I mostly chalk it up to not being sure what to expect.
I will say, I found myself looking for some sort of color/value change to help me "see" the forest/buff-affected trees, perhaps that could also add to the visual variety?

As I search for a map with a "good" forest, there are some things I'm not quite sure of: If I have only 4 oldgrowth trees in my map (for example), do the food spawn buffs only happen around those 4 trees, or is it a larger AoE?
Do you still need other trees to help the food to spawn? are other trees affected somehow?
I ask because in the vicinity of those 4 trees (but not their immediate area), I found an excess of food, but it was growing amongst stone and not many other trees around (not as many as you'd normally find with so much food). I wish I got a screencap, but I've since loaded a few other maps to see how the forests spawn.

Anyway I love forests in Banished, so I'm super excited to play more with your mod!

Hello - every tree, both old and regular - have the ability to spawn food around it, up to about 2 or 3 tiles away. Food grows more rapidly a couple tiles away from each old tree, and for regular trees, well, nothing changed. The spawn zones also overlap and increase the odds of food spawning.

I see, That makes sense. So one more question: How big can the oldgrowth forests be in this mod? I've been loading maps for a while now and rarely get more than 5 trees (so far at least, I'll keep trying ^_^).

With a little more searching I came across two maps that someone seeking more trees might like.
437653324/valleys/large
and my personal fave
707041462/valleys/large <-- this one has a couple nice hotspots and some small clusters.

I also am using the better trees mod, and the second map is pretty flat, so lots and lots of little trees everywhere mwehehehehe.

do the old trees also die after some years like the normal ones? so let´s say you got just a handfull ol trees on yr map and after 20 years they are all gone?`could that happen?

They're semi-immortal, with a lifespan of 850'ish years.

thx for your answer :) I hardly ever play more than 100 years so thats not an issue. another question regarding this mod: I figure the old tree area has some mushrooms and herbs on the forest floor just from the start different to the common forest, which starts empty and just grows them in the next season. This might be the easiest way to find old forest areas, if one has difficulties finding it by the mere tree sizes and pauses the game right on start. Is that correct?
