Going forward, I'm going to pin this discussion because I get asked this frequently.

Short answer: I don't know.

Possible solution: Move the download outside of the workshop folder into the root addon folder.

Long answer: I don't know of any definitive and/or permanent fix to the problem of the addon not appearing in the game's addon list. All I know is a possible and potentially unverified/unconfirmed cause. What I have is not statistics and not verified fixes from users, nor the exact environment users are running.

Conventional wisdom for modders and mappers is to split your addon if it's larger than 200 (?) MB. Something along the lines of the Steam Workshop and L4D2 not being be able to handle files of the size. This addon is 500MB+. When I uploaded this map several years ago, I decided to go against conventional wisdom because I didn't understand the claim, and a single upload was also more convenient. Results: the map uploaded successfully, and incoming comments would indicate that user's were able to play despite the size of my addon - what the exact side effect(s) is for other users who are unable to play, much less if this is even a definitive factor in the above issue, is what I don't know.

If you'd like to verify the game's claim that the map is truly downloaded, open the game's addon/workshop directory and look for my addon. Steam automatically names these files a series of random numbers. I do not know if my map addon specifically has the same RNG for everyone, but if anyone has read this far, please report it down below. You can verify which addon this map is by matching it with the corresponding image file that contains the addon's thumbnail (it's the same series of numbers). Once you have these files, move them up one single directory, and it might force the game to recognize the map. Then unsubscribe here so it doesn't redownload. If you don't see the addon, I don't know - something weird happened in transit with the Steam Workshop and L4D2.
