The VirtualAlloc crash plagues many users, especially in multiplayer. This crash started with the final game update and Windows 10 release and happens in vanilla also (but not as often).

1. Some players have found it is not fixable but others have had some results by trying the following:
Go to the Virtual memory settings tab and make sure all your hard drives have their Paging File Size managed by the system (or set it manually to a number around 3-4gb at least). To find this tab in Windows 10 go to Settings > System > About > Advanced system settings (on the right) > Advanced tab > Performance Settings > Advanced tab > Virtual memory Change

2. Try disabling Steam and Discord overlays

3. Try moving the steam api.dll file out of the Rome 2 directory, start the game, then put it back and start the game again.

4. Make sure the hard drive that the game is installed on has enough extra space. Try a different hard drive or SSD.

5. Try windowed mode, make sure you have unlimited video memory checked.

6. Some people have reported that Windows 11 doesn't have the crash.

7. Install DeI manually from our website as that version has 2-3 times faster load times than Steam version, so potentially puts smaller strain on memory.
