And again ur works are just amaizing, i think u'll get a lot of money))
Anyway i can just tell you that Cinema4D is pretty well for beginners due to his easy interface, but if you ask me "what 3dsoft i need to learn from scratch ?" i should probably advise maya (i regret that i don't start directly by maya personally)
Regarding 2D software, i think you should find advices tips for photoshop on the web if you don't already work with it .
After that i think it's just a tastes question =) .
By the way, i (personally) don't work on textures by projection, i draw directly on the UV, but you can try it by yourself ...Coridium (the guy who made the asiimov skins serie) made a perfect tutorial about it (photoshop, 3dcoat/zbrush) .
