Merchants Ledger?
If you start with a merchant background one of your starting items is a "Merchants Ledger" which uses a book graphic and sells for 240. Aside from its selling price it seems to offer nothing useful to the player, as in no skill bonus or quest related usage etc.

Is there a purpose to the item in any fashion or should it simply be sold off for some starting cash? I'm assuming its simply a fluff item due to your backstory.

Alright, first I'll show you how to access.

CampMenu->TakeAnAction->SelectABookToRead->[select your merchant's ledger]

Now, in order to actually use this, you need to sort ot listen about the local prices in various cities (it's in the market menu, I believe)

The ledger's purpose is to basically record what information you gather in a more conventional way.

I had seen that option on the camp menu but it was always greyed out. I typically don't ask about local prices so that would explain why I never saw that.
