Rising Tide and the future of New Horizons
Rising Tide puts the development of New Horizons at a cross roads. I see multiple ways forward but I want to known what you think of the options. Rising Tides provides the best opportunity for me to revisit and adjust some of the core aspects of New Horizons. Even if you're not a fan of the current version of New Horizons I want to hear from you because this is a unique opportunity for me to potentially radically change New Horizons in a way that may resolve your concerns.

Should New Horizons be broken up into modular parts
I could break New Horizons up into multiple mods. For example, "New Horizons: Virtues" and "New Horizons: Military" could be two mods, one with just the Virtue changes and the other with just the military unit changes. If I move parts of New Horizons over to Rising Tide at a time instead of all at once it won't take as long. This approach would also allow people who like the Virtues but not the Military changes to play with only the parts that they want.

Should New Horizons incorporate really weird mechanics
One advantage of doing a mod that impacts every part of the game is that it has the opportunity to do some really strange far reaching mechanics. I could introduce a mechanic where certain buildings provide "electricity capacity" and if the city's population was greater than the "electricity capacity" you lose a bit of energy. Without endorsing that specific idea, would you want to see more weird stuff like that in New Horizons?

Should New Horizons change its name?
What does "New Horizons" mean to you? Should the Rising Tide version use the same or different name?

Are there any parts or aspects of New Horizons that you feel should be changed or kept?
I know that not everyone likes every aspect of New Horizons. I want to identify which parts are most controversial so I can evolve them and which parts are popular and should be kept as similarly as possible.

hi this mod sounds nice, and i will give it a go when i can, but i think it is good that you keep things together, because you are closer to the development and interactions / interdependencies of each area that you mod, and it is also easier for new players to install 1 mod (which is compatible with all the aspects that have changed).

i think if you made a new mod for rising tide, maybe just keep the same name as this mod (but with RT) at the end :)

Dear Machiavelli,

You are my favorite modder on steam and I ave been keeping an eye on your work since I discovered better policies for Civ5. I am curious how RT will effect growth for the vanilla version of your mod as I dont know how different RT is. Also, would you recommend RT as a purchase?

I will most likely not be doing large new features for vanilla New Horizons as I will be focusing on the Rising Tide version going forward.

As for purchasing Rising Tide, if you've waited this long (and feel like you could wait a bit more) you may as well wait to see if it goes on sale during the upcoming holiday. If you can wait until the end of the year that would be another time it could go on sale.

Rising Tide's new water city feature does give it a distinct feel from Beyond Earth and Civ5 but it also means that there is very little race for expansion space because with the oceans there is twice as much useful space. The unit balance is also clumsy right now but a patch or two could easily refine it.
