Any tips to improve performance?
Vanilla game runs water-smooth, 60fps at every moment. But with Complex, 5 min into "Player vs CPU" and it starts to get really laggy, especially when CPU opponents launch many fighters and corvettes. My rig is fairly good, being i7-8750H, GTX1060 and 16GB of ram, but nonetheless it lags like hell.

Any tips to improve performance?

You said it lags with 2 or more bots in one game... Tbh that is to be expected. While easy to do in vanilla, Complex has a much higher impact on your pc than vanilla so that could be the reason for the lag... The solution is don't have that many CPU players

Turn depth of field off and turn the lifetime of wrecks to short.

Yeah, turn not just that but all the graphics settings right down and see if the lag persists, in retrospect I should have recommended this first...
