I like the mod, and I've got several requests to add it to the server, but after crunching some numbers, I find it a bit unbalanced. If you care to read it, here's my two-cents....


Basically, the benefit of this mod is to fit more thrust power into less physical space. This should come at some sort of cost in efficiency, either in build-cost or power consumption (or some mix of both).

Currently, the power efficiency of all these thrusters match the stock verions, as you just scaled the power and thrust by factors of 2, 4, 8, and 16. To me, this should mean that all the cost of using these thrusters should be in build efficiency (build cost per kN of thrust). However, by my analysis, the build cost efficiency actually gets better as you go up in thruster tiers. As a worst-case, the Level 4 Large Ship Large Thruster is actually 20-times cheaper to build, per unit of thrust, than the stock version.


Here are my calculations, for reference. I've basically assigned a cost to every ore, based on its rarity and refinery conversion ratios, then used those to calculate component costs, then block costs.

Also, another thing that could be added is versions for a half (1/2) and for a quarter (1/4) of the vanilla costs, like a "Rev1" for 1/4 the cost and performance and "Rev2" for 1/2 the cost and performance, being like the revisions of the engine before the default was "released".
