Traffic++ FAQs and Troubleshooting
Hot topics

For issues after updating to the 1.1.1b patch, see 1.1.1b Patch Troubleshooting Guide.

Current and active bugs and their fixes can be found here.

General long-term FAQs are listed below.

Where are the user guides?

I heard Traffic++ breaks saves...?

Earlier versions of Traffic++ had some problems with the loading system and weren't working properly, causing crashes when loadingit used to break loads. The save file was never corrupted.

These bugs have since been fixed in several "bug genocides", and Traffic++ now loads properly in all known scenarios.

Caution: If used, the custom roads will be included in your save games... which means you'll need Traffic++ to load them without errors. If you want to disable Traffic++, but still open those save games, enable Ghost Mode.

Also, there used to be a "phantom bridge" hiding under the map - that's been fixed too. All the early problems that people encountered with this mod have been fixed.

Mod not installing, or Missing features

Remember to switch on (activate) the mod in Content Manager > Mods!

If you've subscribed the mod and it's not showing in Content Manager > Mods, do steps 1–4 here.

You might need to close Content Manager and re-open it for the Options button to appear. There are several mods that stop the options button from appearing. Another alternative is to install Improved Options Panel mod (fixed for 1.1.0).

Runways & Taxiways mod breaks Traffic++

If you're using the Runways and Taxiways mod, it breaks the Road Customiser in Traffic++ (button won't show). See the list of compatible mods for latest information and workaround.

General problems (including road customizer button missing)

In mod options, disable Ghost Mode, and then enable the features you want to use (for example, Road Customizer - which includes the lane changer and vehicle/speed restrictions). Remember to click Save button!

If problems persist, or the mod isn't listed in the Content Manager, please follow these steps to make sure Steam has properly updated your subscribed mods to the latest versions.

The "Options" button is missing from Content Manager

Are you using the Traffic Manager mod as well? Try disabling it and then reload the game. Remember to re-activate Traffic Manager afterwards. (This issue only affects a small number of users, we'll hopefully get it fixed soon).

Lane Changer (Traffic Manager) is missing

When the two mods are used together, the Lane Changer in Traffic Manager automatically disables, and the Lane Changer in Traffic++ is used instead.

Priority lanes (stop/yeild), crossings, traffic lights...

These features are from the Traffic Manager mod, which needs to be subscribed separately. If you have problems with these features please report them in the Traffic Manager forum.

I can't find the multi-track station option

There isn't one, it's enabled by default. Also, you don't need the separate multi-track station enabler mod as Traffic++ replicates the exact same functionality (thanks to Sims firehouse!).

BTW, here's a sample multi-track station asset you can use: Holstebro. If you want to create your own multi-track stations (not a trivial task), follow this guide.

Where is the prevent despawn button?

There isn't one, it's now a global setting in mod options. (Thanks to CBeTHaX!)

Note: Based on feedback, we're hoping to make this togglable in-game in a future release.

I get an error when I place a bus stop

Steam failed to update your mods. Follow this guide to fix it.

Vehicle restrictions and lane changing isn't working

After making changes, it takes a while for the existing vehicles on the map to update their routes. We're hoping to improve this in future releases to make them respect your changes more immediately.

If you want instant results, use the Despawn Vehicles feature in Traffic Manager to clear away all existing traffic; all new traffic that spawns will be aware of your vehicle restrictions and lane changes.

My game is running slow

Have you used the Prevent Despawn or Realistic Speeds options? If so, they result in much more traffic being on the map, which can cause FPS drop / lag. Try turning those options off and see if that helps.

If problems persist, please let us know as we want to make this mod as fast as possible!

My traffic lights are going in to negative numbers

Timed traffic lights are a feature of Traffic Manager, and can suffer this bug if you store your saves on Steam Cloud. For more information, see this post.

Traffic++ is breaking the Terraform Tool

Both Traffic++ and the Terraform Tool mods use the game's API to display their toolbar buttons, and as such they should not conflict with each other.

However, other mods which add toolbar buttons can cause problems, one such mod being Mod Corral (and mods that rely on it, such as Chirpy Banner). Mod Corral is known to have serious compatibility issues with C:S 1.1.0 patch and it's recommended to unsubscribe it (and mods that rely on it) until these bugs are fixed.

Service vehicles

My services are not working! The houses are burning to the ground!

Service vehicles need to reach their destination quickly:
  • Realistic speeds option – If enabled, it will slow down traffic so you'll need to optimise the location of your service buildings and improve your road network. Tip: Prevent service vehicles roaming to far with Enhanced Hearse AI, Enhanced Garbage Truck AI.
  • Pedestrianised roads – make sure you have service buildings close to slow pedestrianised zones. Tip: There are "Local" service buildings in the workshop, such as a local fire station or small family clinic.
  • Got enough services? – You'll need to keep increasing capacity as your city grows.

Why aren't my emergency vehicles using pedestrianised roads as shortcuts to avoid traffic?

Your cims decided to buy cheap sat navs that don't know about traffic jams. So they'll just sit there in a jam rather than finding a shortcut. Also, the pedestrian roads are speed restricted, so cims - even emergency services - will generally avoid them. I believe this is a good thing, since this is not supposed to be a cheat to not having to care about traffic.

Feedback / Suggestions / Bug Reports

Each time a new update is released a pinned topic will be created in the Discussions tab were you can post feedback, bug reports, etc. These topics have titles similar to "May 22nd Update - Feedback/Bug Reports". Old topics will be locked so always use the most recent one.

Before posting bug reports, try this.

For feature requests and general improvements, see this.

Hi, first of all - thank you for this amazing mod! It all got so realistic now! :)
I just have one problem, and I couldn't find the answer on the forums...
It seems that for me only service vehicles (police, ambulance, fire trucks etc.) respect speed restrictions... I'm only using Traffic Manager and Proper Hardness mods.
Any idea about what could help me?

Do the respect slower speeds? Some vehicles have low top speeds and won't go any faster even if the speed restriction allows it.

Yes, I realised that you made bigger vehicles drive generally slower and they have poor acceleration - that is realistic as well as the top speeds. But the thing is that non-service vehicles don't respect slower restrictions. I tried to reduce speed restriction to 15 on a highway - just for a test. I respawned the traffic, as you adviced, and checked that only emergency vehicles respect the restrictions. All the other mod's features work. As I said, all the mods I'm using have been checked by you as working (Traffic manager, Transport Info, Road engineering).

We'll investigate and see if we can find out why they're not slowing down. Thanks for reporting the issue!

Hi, my game crashes mostly at the second save in every session. The Paradox Support thinks that it is caused most likely by Traffic++ and I should disable it and try it again. Well, by disabling the save would not load and in ghost mode I get a stucked-traffic-bug. Attached is my output-log and hopefully there is a solution for my problem.

After some tests it seems that Traffic++ isn't the problem but Traffic Manager Plus. Deactivating that mod and using just Traffic Manager makes it possible to save normally.

Hi, the idea of Traffic++ is nice, but it would need the street light manager from "Traffic Manager" mod.
Problems i found: I tried the mod with a city, where i had no traffic problems and about 75000!
I started with changing highway lanes to give them no truck lanes, but after long time it had not changed, the trucks dirve as bevor at the no truck lanes!!
Secound after short time i got massive traffic jam´s becourse of lane changing cars, which stop while changing lanes! - And this on not changed streets too!
PC-performance goes rapidly down if you use the tool massive on street crosses and lanes.
Maybe this is a problem for older pc´s as mine.

We're working on fixing those issues in TAM, the mod that will replace T++.

Do taxis count as buses (as in, if I set a lane to be bus only will taxis use it or will they get stuck in the normal traffic)?

I'm having a problem. Maybe I'm just being dumb, but I can not find, how to make speed limits. Whenever I click, on the Modify Road options, I only get the default 3 tabs (Routes, Junctions and Adjust Road). This is getting annoying and I'm beginning to feel like an idiot. Please advise. My other road mods, are Fine Road Anarchy and Improved Public Transport 2.
