Conveyor Air Vent - full sized block (and slope!)
Digi  [udvikler] 21. mar. 2015 kl. 6:49
Balancing this block (power, components, build time)
Currently this block uses:
  • SteelPlate: 10
  • InteriorPlate: 50
  • Construction: 120
  • MetalGrid: 5
  • SmallTube: 30
  • Motor: 10
  • Computer: 5 ----- red+blue line
  • Construction: 20
  • InteriorPlate: 10
  • SteelPlate: 10
It takes 52 seconds to build (original air vent takes 50 seconds).
And uses 330kW when working (same as original) and 0.1W in standby.

The original air vent does not even use motors but uses a lot of power when working which is really odd and makes me think that the air vent wasn't really tweaked for survival.

The refinery and assembler uses 560kW and the oxygen generator uses 330kW...

If you guys have any thought out suggestions on balancing this, please do tell :P

as i said before, 300kw might work, also, keep the motors, they make it more realistic compared to the other, but lower the computer count by just one, thats all ive got.
TheOddOracle 21. mar. 2015 kl. 6:58
oh, hold on, one more thing, try for 100 constuction components, it seems like a lot for a single air vent

300,000 watts is still huge xD

EDIT: The thing is it's not just a vent, consider the conveyor block too.

Well beside the fact that the vent should actually consume power dynamically based on the work it has to do (though that is keens end to change of course), much like heater in RimWorld work, i think that a small rooms vent should have 10-30kW, a large room 50-100kW and a huge room like a hangar bay 150-300kW.

So as for basic balance and for most applications i personally would have in mind, which is private rooms, 30kW would actually be a good power consumption. Still high enough to not flood any construction with them.

Overall, using the oxygen should be what the vent consumes, energy however not so much.
BlackRedDead 21. mar. 2015 kl. 8:31
yea, 30kW sounds like reasonable!^^

you should decrease the need of interior plates and construction componments a bit, maybe to:
InteriorPlate: 40
Construction: 80
so you have 50/100 in the end^^

You can get brushless motors with ~5kW and more within less of a footballs volume, so i dont quite see the use of such a comparison. I dont even see why there should be a motor at all to be honest as decompressing oxygen generates an airflow on itself already.

The only part where it would require a motor or some other actuators would be the compression part and thus depressurizing an area.

Overall i think that the vent itself could also be a very thin element on a wall.
Much like 20-50cm deep and big enough at the wall plane to fit a conveyor hatch.
That way you could easily have a 1x1x1 hallways with vents in it and still walk through.
Digi  [udvikler] 21. mar. 2015 kl. 12:39
Well no motors required for pressurization but what about depressurization ? XD

And I chose to make it a full block because you would still need a conveyor block behind the air vent anyway, so why not save a block space for a light or something ? :P

And yeah, I think 100 construction and 50 interior plates would be more ok.

As for power... I hover around 10-20, still not sure what to pick.

Nobody cares about the build time it seems =)

Ok, updated with:
  • SteelPlate: 10
  • InteriorPlate: 40
  • Construction: 80
  • MetalGrid: 5
  • SmallTube: 30
  • Motor: 10
  • Computer: 5
  • Construction: 20
  • InteriorPlate: 10
  • SteelPlate: 10

And 15kW power.

Now that SE is 1.0, can these materials, power, and PCU requirements be brought in line with current conveyors and air vents? They are currently drastically more expensive than conveyors or air vents, especially in metal grids with the cobalt requirement.

Right, mixed vanilla conveyor and airvent components, removed a few bits and now it's got: https://pastebin.com/fxisTHgv

Thank you very much.

Could do with a higher air throughput, a large hangar bay with 14 of these takes ages to cycle :)

As it does in reality ;D - maybe add an Airlock to your Hangar ;-)
