The Wizard and Magic Missile
I've noticed that in the wiki, the link to Magic Missile was clickable. On the page, it looks like it shows the recipe to making the item but I can't seem to find it in the crafting system. Would like some help on its whereabouts.

Find what? The blueprint? The Wand? Are you saying it's not craftable?

find the blueprint, because if you had read the wizard page, you'ld know he needs to find his spells before being able to craft them.

Okay. Thank you.

So, I notice that all the spells I get seem to take rather late game materials, even for being a level 1 spell. Is there something the wizard can build early on to help him survive, cause I find once my Magic Missile wand breaks, I'm screwed.

Well, the wizard is more in the spirit of the original game, not always fighting your way trough each monster you find but sometimes, fleeing, using traps, having allies...using your mind.
Also, some spells are really cheap(like the acid splash one, rot+stingers). The wizard is supposed to be hard, a bit like wes in vanilla, a challenging character.

Ah, I don't normally think og Wizard's as the challenge class in that way. I normally think that Wizards will be challenging in that you have to choose the right spell for the right situation. I just keep finding that the only spell I get to use is my starting Magic Missile, as the other level 1 spells just seem to hard to build (even Nightmare Fuel is tough when you can't really fight).

As for Acid Splash, a Bee has 100 health. That's 5 hits with the Magic Missile. We'd need to kill about 12 bees for 10 stingers. So that's 60 shots. We couldn't even make two of those spells before the Magic Missile broke, and the acid splash wouldn't even get to the point of recreating itself if you purely fought the bees. That's the sort of thing where I think the balance needs tweaked a little.

Well, why would you use a magic spell on bees when you have ways to kill them without fighting...you can get yourself bug nets from trapped spiders . Also, just go to the ruins to get overload of free nightmare fuel.
As i already said it, with the wizard, you need to stop thinking of fighting your way trough all the creatures. There is always ways to get the items you need without fighting by yourself(and if it's too dangerous, it will not hurt a treeguard to run from the toughest foes, especially giants. You always have ways to get rid of them.

Huh, what are spider traps? Are those something new added to the game through the mod? Cause I don't see it on the wiki.

Huh, so the funny thing about that is that this mod has shifted my attitude MORE towards needing to kill everything, since that's the primary way to get exp. I get xp for blasting a bunny, but not for trapping one. I get xp for killing a hound, but not for leading them to their deaths amond the beefalo. So would it be possible to add alternative ways to get xp then? (Besides prototyping, you can only do that so many times).

Hum, you have a point, also learning new spells gives exp. And if you need to be more powerfull with your spells at lower level, you can craft some enchanted robes to boost your spell level of the school concerned. And the trapped spiders i referred, that's only the only trap i know to catch little creatures. You know, the one you do with twigs and grass...it can catch spiders.

Oh wow, I've played this for years and thought that you could only capture rabbits with that.

Are there any robes/hats that don't require the alchemy table then? Or is there a trick to getting the alchemy table easier? Cause taking down the treant with a wizard does not seem like something I'be be likely to be able to do if I'm trying to boost my lower level spells.

A trick? of course, there is always tricks! When you explore pine forest you can find suspicious looking trees, and if you explore enough, you can easily get 3 or 4.
DeNarr 30 Jun, 2015 @ 6:31am
Alirhgt, that sounds a bit more manageable then, though I still think non-combat solutions should give exp
DeNarr 27 Jul, 2015 @ 12:35pm
Just like to throw out there that I never was able to find more than one suspicious tree. I did, however, find a mod that allowed you to craft Living Logs using Nightmare Fuel. That made this a bit more workable.

I intend to redo the spell ingreds at some point, the wizard was made before a lot of the items were added to the mod, and more are coming soon, so in the end I will redo spells and add in higher level spells ;)
