Defenition and use of "Mark" in the name
During the last days ive been thinking alot about is what the defenition of Mk(mark) should be when i make my turrets.

"The word "mark", followed by number, is a method of designating a version of a product" - Wiki

Ideas of how to use it:

-One way is to use it as a tier number depending on tech,
example:
Mk1 muzzle velocity is 300
Mk2 gets improved muzzle velocity(400) but will be more expencive.
The difference could then be shown by adding things like extended barrel length and adding more coils to the model of a coil/railgun.

-Another way is to have it size dependent for a series of guns used on a specific ship class, ex Battleship class cannon.Size: Mk1 = 3x3, Mk2 = 5x5, Mk3 = 7x7.
Capital class cannon. Size: Mk1 = 10x10, Mk2 = 15x15, Mk3 = 30x30. (random sizes)

For future cannons I think that I really need to have some kind of definition how im going to name the cannons, this would make things much easier and more understandable.

Much more understandable
If you do plan on making a capital cannon, I will be first in line to try it.

It almost scares me that you don't seem to consider a battleship a capital ship :-p

How about number of barrels? Mk1 is one barrel, Mk2 is two, so on for however many models you want.

You can add an A (adaptation) to name to specify small improves and use mark as larger changes like more barrels or simply bigger gun class. then you are able to come back to make small additions to older models.

to be honest any modification to an already exsisting working item is concidered a mark (MK) upgrade. its is a better more improved version of the original.

Ah, but what about the 6km long star dreadnaught I am building.... most player's battleships would look like frigates and corvettes next to it

Maybe stay with the Mk1, Mk2, Mk3 and see it as a product line.
In fact, that the Turrets now have a nearly straight look, they could be like the updated Versions from Mk1 to Mk3.
So that you just need something like a byname to this product line, like "Gryphon" or sth,. like that to stay clear with the line.
The next Cannons could be named another line and continue that in Mk1-Mkx etc

The standard in navies is to indeed use Mark (Mk) for the "versions" of the same weapon.

For example the guns on Battleship Iowa were "16 inch ( or 406mm ) 50-caliber Mark 7 Naval guns".

It's predecessors the South Dakota class were armed with "16 inch, 45-caliber Mark 6 Naval guns".

- 16 Inch or 406mm is how wide the barrels are ( on the inside ) and is the main way to tell how heavy and destructive the weapon is. This should ideally match the diameter size of the ammo models you use to load the guns with if you want to be very accurate.

- 50 or 45 caliber is how long the barrels are ( 50x406 = gives us 20.3 meters for the Iowa guns ). This is sometimes skipped over when naming the guns, but longer barrels will improve accuracy or effective range of the weapon, so it can be a useful way to tell a short and long range version of same weapon apart.

I thought that would be the other way round, with caliber being projectile/barrel diameter, and inches being the barrel length, since caliber is in tenths or hundrths of an inch.
