Why guns aren't gonna happen.
Okay, I'm gonna help 1337gamer15 (AKA the author) here with all the people asking for SMGs and sniper rifles.

People asking for guns, I have a question for you.
When's the last time you saw a DST (or DS, for that matter) mod that added ANY kind of gun? If you said anything other than "Never", you're lying and you know it. Wanna know WHY there aren't any gun mods? No? Well, TOO BAD.
The reason there are no gun mods for DST (or DS) is because the game's code it quite literally completely incapable of something like a gun. Now, before you start yelling at me that there's a throwable spears mod and that there's a boomerang already in the game, etc., I actually need to finish.
Though THROWABLE weapon mods are very possible to create, GUN mods are NOT. The difference being? Well, a THROWABLE weapon mod adds weaponry that uses functionality already in the game. A GUN mod, on the other hand, would need to have an entirely different and new code to function properly. To put it in more technical terms:
A throwable weapon mod uses a physical entity as a projectile, which is already implemented into the base game. However, a gun mod would need to implement some sort of point hurt entity into the game that would instantly hit the target without creating a physical entity (as that doesn't exist in the actual game). The reason that's such a big problem is because of how much time and effort it would take to make such a thing, if it is even possible to begin with.

hit scan is just a line and then checking what crosses the line. It might not be implemented already, but it seems like a rather minorish addition to the code.

Good point. I honestly didn't think of that. However, there IS one problem that could be pretty hard to solve: how would you prevent the line from going through walls and rocks and whatnot? The reason that would be hard is because of camera rotation. Say somebody is trying to shoot a spider from behind a rock. From their current perspective, the spider is behind the rock, thus preventing him from shooting it. However, if he changes the camera perspective to where the spider is NEXT to the rock, then how would the hitscan code address the change? Furthermore, even if the camera started out from that angle, how would the hitscan be able to tell? For example, say you have a multiplayer game (this is Together, after all) and PvP is enabled. If two people with guns encounter each other, each with a different camera angle, how would the hitscan tell the difference between player 1 and player 2's perspectives? Player 1 could see player 2 as being behind the rock, thus placing him out of the line of fire, while player 2 could see player 1 as next to the rock, thus placing him within the line of fire. This issue, though (somewhat) minor, would still be a pain to fix.
Long story short, though you make a valid arguement, it has its flaws.

ive seen the medic mod get a health blow dart i dont see why the sniper couldnt get a jarate blow dart,im sure it would be hard but it is only a suggestion

Nah guns are possible, given the Engineer mod gets fully functional sentry guns. Just gotta git gud.

You do realize this thread is half a year old, right? I do realize it's possible to make guns now, as mods like what you mentioned have done so before.

yeah, what about the huntsman???
Personally i think any kind of gun shouldn't be added to this character, it's not the essence of don't starve have guns.
