Various observations
1) Until I did Frosty's run, I had no way of checking my notoriety, street cred etc. Gunderson really should be able to do the same thing.

2) Frosty's first run is almost impossible to complete early on. I reloaded a saved position and ground out about 40 runs for Gunderson ... doing the same 5-6 runs over and over ... until I had enough Karma to get the appropriate skill level.

3) Your notes say that I won't be asked to hire runners every map, but this still occurs. Even if I am not on a run, I keep getting pestered to hire runners every time I move to a new map.

4) Hired runners don't follow me to the run sites. I finally got the skills needed to do a second run for Frosty, and hired two runners, shaman and rigger. It was the data steal run on the labs in Northside. When I entered the building, the hired runners were nowhere to be seen. Luckily, I had decent enough skills and equipment to trash the place solo ... killing about 20 Lone Star guards in the process ... and get the reward. Oddly enough, my Heat level afterward, according to Frosty, was not that high. You would think they'd have a "shoot on sight" bulletin out on me after such carnage.

5) I'm playing a Troll physical adept. While we can't transport characters over from the other Shadowrun games, this is the class I have played most often, so I have a feeling ... pure illusion, of course ... of continuity there. However, this partciluar skill set gives me the ability to earn almost unlimited cash and, as a consequence of that, an equally unlimited supply of whatever type medikit I want. I don't want to give away what may be an exploitable bug (or oversight on your part), but if you think about it, I suspect you will realize what I am speaking of.

I earned a bit over 40,000 NuYen in about an hour of real time, and bought 20 or so type 3 medikits for my stash. It's a cute idea, but the cash prize should NOT grow exponentially after each win. I'm at the point where I am winning 2500 per bout, and it's only going to increase.

I have progressed further in the game, and it looks like you acually DO need that much cash for various things ... many of these being optional but some not. Which makes me wonder how characters with other skill sets can make enough NuYen to take care of business. I'd be curious to hear from some who have succeeded financially.

i started as a gun sam.. just a few points so i could survive gundersons runs, then started to skill/gear up as a decker... lots of cash available in the matrix!... dunno how many hours i spent, but ive got a fairlight excalibur plus plenty of killer apps, plus my customizable hideout is maxed as well...

..also, i never use docwagon and i didnt even bother with a safehouse until over a dozen runs into the game..trying to reduce the taxation on each run adds up quickly, as well as ramping up your negotiation skills too

Can confirm, hired Ricky twice, didn't show up for either run.
He sure wanted his pay though.
Did you hire Ricky before or after accepting the run? I hired him, and two of the runners that were with me on that Frosty's mission (which isn't that hard really, you just have to let the three of them do all of the heavy lifting), when I stepped outside, nobody was there. Yet when I called him afterwards, and hired him again, he showed up. Then I went back in to ask the guys to join me, and they said "looks like your party's already full" (or something like that). I'm guessing I have to raise my charisma to bring in a bigger party. At least that's what I hope it is, because that's what worked for the SNES version.

And you'll need cash. Take a look at the top-tier cyberdecks. Take a look at the top-tier cyberware. Those parts are 500k nuyen! There's a lot that's similar to the old Shadowrun game for the Sega Genesis. A lot of prices scaled up (especially computer programs) with each consecutive upgrade. Just please, developers, DO NOT PUT TAR PIT IN THIS GAME! Tar paper? Fine. BUT NO TAR PIT DAMMIT!!!!!
Okay, I think I figured ou the problem with runners not showing up, and another thing to boot. I tried hiring Verun Julos in person after first meeting him, and he said SURE! But he didn't show up in my phone's contacts list. This is what I've done, and so far it seems to have worked.

-Meet them at their respected bar/club and ask them what their story is
-Do not try to hire them on right there
-Step outside and call them and they will agree and show up

I didn't even have a mission, and it worked. I haven't tried calling them after getting a mission, but I can say with almost 100% certainty, this works.

They will show up and follow you, but not neccesarily join you on your run at the actual location. Try doing an Espionage run from frosty (Telestrian), they don't follow u in.

Another thing ive noticed is that its just plain finanically insanely beneficial to start as a decker. The paydata you get allows u to buy medkits, decks, weapons, chrome (move by wire is made affordable by that paydata), whatever you want and not need to worry about cash. In addition, you can pick up the Skillwires 3 decking cyberware, and with a character of Karma in the 50's, you can have the fairlight excalibur incredibly early on.

Karma rewards also aren't scaled to time taken to complete a run, at least early on if you aren't combat specced. It is far more efficient, karma-wise, to spam risk-free gundersson runs for 1 karma each then to to a run for frosty that gets u 4 karma, but takes a lot more than 4x the time. and since cash is easy with paydata, the payouts arent worth it either.

Magicians < Everything Else
Anyone with melee skills can make a killing (literally) in the fight pit.
Deckers can make a mint of stolen pay-data.

I haven't found a way for magic-specced or gun-specced characters to compete financially, but I'm only scraping past Frosty's storyline now.

Re-iterating the Sega Genesis ghoul-hunts would be amazing. Ring a dinner bell, summon some ghouls. Cash per ghoul.
I know this is a bit late but you are able to sort of check on your street cred at the start. If you go to the guy who sells you next level of stuff, he will tell you that he can't sell to you until you reach a certain level which is the next level from what ever the first one was.

My armor does still seem to work, for blocking various DOTs. please feel free to not fix this "issue" as i happen to like working armor. You can use hired runners for multiple story segements, as i used ricky, clockwork, and the street sam from prenumbra for both the yakuza drug lab raid and then for killing chet, and finally ditched them after a ghoul killing run. It would be nice if at least some ghouls made for the player, as it feels like it takes too long to go from point a to b to c...etc. for the small chunks of change killing ghouls is worth. I feel like the essence requirements for the chi casting spells is just a little high. i had wanted to add stride and go rather light on the cyberware but now about all i can carry is killing hands and i still have like 4 essence. can't wait to see what you've got planned for the story after rescuing piper. excellent content overall.
