Issue with long/slow saving times
Hey Everyone,

Took me a while to narrow an issue with long and slow saving times (over 7 minutes) to this mod and burning trees, so thought I'd open a discussion on it to help others with the same issue.

kjmci originally posted his findings in the comments section of this mod, which helped me alot. I'll quote it here so it doesn't get lost in the comments feed:

I've personally experienced the slow-save/large save-file size issue and was kindly provided a patched DLL from somebody who had the same problem. I've now assisted four other people with the same problem and this patch has worked for each of them. In each case, it drops the time it takes to save from upwards of 10 minutes to less than 10 seconds.

I'm told the issue is related to the way the mod serialises the normal/on-fire/burned status of trees, so this bug only rears its head when a city has a high volume of trees which are very close together, and a number of forest fires are burning out of control.

I'm keen to put the fixer and the current mod maintainer in touch to find a way to implement this fix into the current WS build. If anyone can connect me with BloodyPenguin or the other maintainers, I'm on Twitter and Creators Discord under the same username as here.

I can confirm having the same issue, as my output_log.txt indicates that it is this mod which is slowing down my saving times:
OnSaveData() fired 10:22:26.955 PM [...] Tree saving process completed. (packed) 10:28:33.933 PM

Clicking the "Reset all burning trees" in the mod's options instantly reduced my saving times to 1 second! Expecting the issue to return with time though, at least without a more permanent fix like suggested by kjmci.

Thanks for highlighting this, Penguin. As mentioned, I have a fix for this (although I did not develop it). I manged to get in touch with the guy who provided me with it and they said:

"the thing was about the tree serialization. If I could recall, the bug was because the original tree unlimiter matches the burned tree manually using linear search"

I remain ready to connect the current maintainer of the mod with the person above who helped me with this fix.

@Penguin - grab me on Twitter or Discord if you would like the patch.

wow so its this mod causing this issue, would you mind sharing the fix with other people @kjmci? you could just post a link for the fix here while the mod authors doesn't fix it officially... and since this has not been update since 2018 i actually dont see what would stop you from just posting the fixed version of the mod on the workshop itself

@2Dimm I've considered it, but I'd really like to give the maintainers an opportunity to respond here. I've tried again to rouse some of the people listed, but what you've suggested may be the nuclear option.

I've now published the patched mod to the workshop. To reiterate, if the current maintainers want to incorporate this fix into the main branch please get in touch. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2378914031
